Rings of Power. I drifted off a bit in the second half but that's a whole lot of prologue for an 8 episode season.
I don't think this is spoilery but who do we think the stranger will be?
Early-gen Gandalf (book unfriendly bit all the visual/audio evidence points at him), one of the other Istari (I'd say blue wizard but always imagined them as twins) or even big old Mr Nasty pants wh ich seems unlikely given Galadriel's hunt (utterly pointless if he's not even been here). Also, she's following the symbols North but the stranger lands in the South.
Why does Elrond's broach contain Sauron's logo? Seems a bit daft!
I just watched The Rings Of Power & was pretty blown away by the whole spectacle. The characters are so much better than I expected them to be but I am sort of concerned about the various accents. I find them distracting & I spend much time trying to spot when they get dropped even for a line.
I think this is worth merging into the existing Hobbit thread
Makes sense! So far, the trailers were pretty poorly put together and don't show what we're actually getting. There hasn't been too much really bad in the way of digital effects. They're playing fast and loose with the source material though. I'll be genuinely miffed if that is Gandalf. And they've got so much to cover before they get to Isildur taking the ring, just the Numenor stuff is epic before they make up their own nonsense.
I don't think we've seen shapeshifting Sauron yet.
He should still have been pretty Valar Sauron in his intro but I get the need for brand recognition so the armour is ok.
I guess some low key stuff and appearances but by the end of this season I'd hope he's Annatar and is introduced to Celebrimbor. Which should be the main narrative they're aiming for.
Season 2 should be the crafting and trickery - ending with him nicking the rings.
Season 3 I'd hope for handing the rings out and start of the Nazgul but these events are spread over 500ish yrs :/
Season 4 Fall of Numenor
Season 5 Isildur
But Isildur is already in season one so timeline is going to be compressed?
I think the rings will be made at the end of this season, they haven't made the kiln yet but that should happen next episode. I won't mind if the entire first season is just a prolgue for the next three. As for Isuldor, it was just skipped over, maybe it will be shown in entirety as a flashback?
I watched with Charlie today, had to pause every ten seconds for "Daddy who's that?" "That's not Elrond" "That's not Gladriel" yes I know I spelt that wrong ... .. . it's how Charlie pronounces Galadriel
Isildur is King of Gondor from day #1, I think, so he should be in this for duration. I guess his main plot bits are: King of Gondor but from Numenor. Sauron conquers Numenor and flips them to Morgoth worshippers. Isildur goes to Numenor, pinches their white tree fruit before they destroy it and gets forked up by them. Takes it back to Gondor. Numenoreans destroyed trying to enter Valar and Numenor sunk, Atlantis stylee. Chops off Saurons hand. Dies. With assorted hanging around looking stern and council duty scenes.
So you could compress most of those beats so they're in parallel to the rings being made. Can't remember if Sauron has the rings/bearers before he goes to Numenor.
