Nick & Warren were amazing last night. Nick was in a great mood & Warren was downright goofy. We got the extra encore, so nice long show. Very different lineup & cool lighting design. Now I hope we get the Bad Seeds in the US next year.

The last few tours he's been without an opening act and had venues send out notices that his show is going to start promptly at 8. While there are situations where I like to see an opening act, I can really appreciate this approach from Nick.
Also hoping for a full-blown Bad Seeds US tour soon, chuckrh . 🤞🏻

I know this was linked in an earlier post, but it's the only instance in this thread to this mailing list, and I think it's quite strange there's no talk of this here. www.theredhandfiles.com/
I generally find the questions asked and his answers to be quite interesting, though I was disappointed to find out he is a Christian, and find the references to "God" to be tiresome. I'm not sure why I thought he wouldn't believe in something, perhaps his previous lifestyle? I don't intend on starting a heated argument about it, but suffice to say I generally find religion galling and appalling. Spiritualism on the other hand is a totally different matter - to me. blah blah blah.
I'm not fussed on NC to be honest, I like a handful of songs, but his influence on music is undeniable, and my opinion is just that: my opinion. I'm glad you lot enjoy his musical output. I did go see him and Warren do something a while back, but that was a taping favor for a good friend of us all. Man, was I bored at that show!
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!
So..... Seen this years model of the Bad Seeds and mixed feelings - as expected!
Good stuff first - as a performer, he obviously still has it. It looks effortless and Warren is also sharing the limelight more since their tour as a duo. Crowd lapped it up.
On the downside, there's just so much schtick to the show. Songs are stretched out far beyond sensible lengths to accommodate all the not spontaneous audience stuff which was tiresomely constant. He's literally never on stage unless he's actually playing the piano. It's a show that the majority only see on the big screen.
There's none of the old intensity either, partly because of Nick's behaviour but also because there are no original Bad Seeds left - Thomas is absent again so Martyn is the longest serving member. That connection with the pre-Warren era seems permanently gone now - no more gang vibe or mining of the back catalogue. The stage is full of professional musicians with very little personality. The Nick and Warren show was so much more enjoyable than this Bad Seeds show.
So, good but it's a Nick Cave show, not a Bad Seeds show and they are are two very different things. I watched the Montreux show today for comparison and it's so much better than what we got without all the faff, padding and crowd stuff.
Vortex was the only thing I'd not seen them play before and it sounded like a late-era R.E.M. B side!

Late era REM isn't a bad thing in my book. I had a friend who was producing AOL session at that time & got to go to the filming in Vancouver. I literally sat 3 feet from Michael Stipe while he performed. I've seen a video of "Nightswimming" where you can see my feet in the bottom of the picture haha. It's too bad the only Nick show in England was a festival gig. Even though they did a long set for a festival it was still 45 minutes less than some of the standalone shows in Europe were. I like the back up singers. As far as it not being like the old days goes, Nick is 63 or 64 now. He's still got more energy than most of his peers the same age. I wouldn't expect him to be kicking fans in the head at this date. Just for the sake of argument compare Nick's output the last 10-20 years with RS. They're about the same age. My "wish" is that Robert puts out the gloom record & shuts me up....PS: if you're jonesing for some Blixa Bargeld, check this out:

I'd settle for a shorter gig with a bit of energy and none of the crowd interaction
Drop in a couple of songs like The Carny and we're really talking!

What would your top 5 Nick albums be?
That's a tough one. Here you go, in no particular order except the first one. Live Seeds Murder Ballads Push the Sky Away Ghosteen Henry's Dream/The Good Son/Let Love In (tie)

It's a tough one, the early ones are a little too sketchy but from YFMT onwards they are pretty consistent. I really like that Live Seeds album, was a great tour but the Paradiso video has a better setlist. Saw them on before Nirvana on that tour and they were incredible.
Your Funeral, My Trial Henry's Dream Let Love In No More Shall We Part Push The Sky Away
Lazarus is a bit of a forgotten classic but just missed the top 5
