It's been a month since my last survey of The Cure. I have a good reason, I got married!
For our reception, I made a wedding CD with a lot of schmaltzy stuff, Duran Duran and Thompson Twins and some other stuff way too embarassing to admit on this board. A single Cure track made it onto my wedding CD, Lovesong of course. (Maybe The Snakepit or Cold for the anniversary.)
I haven't really taken a break in listening to The Cure. Thanks to a huge upload by jumeteor, I have been enjoying 2000 shows consecutively. I promise to get back to the eighties soon. Until then...
The innocence of sleeping children Dressed in white and slowly dreaming Stops all time I slow my steps and start to blur So many years have filled my heart I never though I'd say those words
Further we go And older we grow The more we know The less we show
The very first time I saw your face I thought of a song and quickly changed the tune The very first time I touched your skin I thought of a story and rushed to reach the end too soon
So many of The Cure's songs have meaning to me in a romantic sense. in the early nineties, I felt the lyrics to A Forest in a very personal way, as I saw myself lost in a forest unable to find the right mate. A Letter to Elise made me feel wistful loss, even thuough I didn't know any woman named Elise. So the songs of The Cure still have meaning to me after marriage. But perhaps I'll have a richer perspective. And I hope to be married as long as Robert has.
Thought I'd resume my playthrough of The Cure live with 1987.07.13 Santa Barbara. There are a number of versions of this show for the simple reason that no one seems to have been sober enough to record the entire show on their own. I am listening to a combine I made which puts together 'The Perfect Kiss' and 'Australian Silver' CDs. Maybe someone knows the story here, but I wonder how you can have 5 soundboards and 1 cassette version, none of them complete.
Anyway, a great show to listen to. The whole show features the double-album of Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (the title of which is taken from the lyrics of The Kiss), and just a handful of 'older' songs like Inbetween Days and Boys Don't Cry.
I really like hearing All I Want, Torture, and Like Cockatoos live. Why Can't I Be You? closes out the show.
