I still have not gotten my vinyl of Songs of a Lost World.
This week I was driving in my car playing my recording of the 2023 Cure show in Miami. I was in the very top of the arena, with my back against the concrete arena wall standing on the stairs between aisles. So not as clear as those recordings people made from the front row, but it's my recording so I'm partial to it.
Anyway, The Cure played 4 songs from their new album at our show. That is a whole vinyl record side! The problem is that I had to boost the volume of the recording, while not lowering the volume of guys yelling "YEAH!" between songs. So my recording really annoyed me.
I am "remastering" my original Tascam DR-05 WAV files (the highest resolution it had) to boost the volume 474%, while cutting out the fans yelling between songs. A labor of love, but I believe this will be my best concert and I will upload the finished result to mega.nz, as a TRIBUTE to the new album's release!
Mixed Up, the double album at $44.99 sat at Beachside Retro records since the 2019 remaster came out. I think it's a bargain.
The beautiful cardboard sleeves are slathered with artwork from the Mixed Up session. But this comes at a price.
Because they are not paper sleeves, the heavy cardboard stock scraped the surface of both vinyl records, on opposite sides. Perhaps compression during shipment to the record store. This scuffing simply would not have happened had The Cure put the vinyls in cheap paper sleeves.
Plays okay, but definitely not the way I wanted to open a brand-new remastered record package.
I have not given up on my "listening tour" of live shows which continues beyond 2022.
It simply took me some time to sort through and organize that last tour through 2023 shows. I don't have all of them but a very good sample and will start listening to them over my free weekends again.
So although I am not interested in obtaining "Songs of a Lost World" online, I still look for it and will get it on vinyl if I see it at a local store. Yesterday I went to Target (an overpriced American chain store) and was surprised to see a clear blue edition of David Gilmour's latest, maybe final, album. So I bought that for the same price they're advertising Songs at. ($34.95 US)
Every American store is overloaded with dozens of Taylor Swift albums. I guess her political activities did not carry over to enthusiasm for her records. This Target store actually had her "tortured poets" album in the clearance aisle with a $5 discount.
Finally, I saw something weird online and bought a new Cure CD, which I claimed I would never buy a CD of theirs again but I broke that promise already. So sue me. It's this oddity from Elektra records:

I would have swapped in Another Journey by Train and Charlotte Sometimes, but it's a great setlist covering a wide range!

Enjoyed 2022-10-26 Budapest - Papp László Budapest Sportaréna (Hungary), tonight. As European fans, they got "The Figurehead" which has never been played in the United States. A fine show where the recording only gets staticy when everyone cheers between songs.
While the setlist is trying out songs for the 2024 album, fans got some delightful surprises (which were surprising in 2022) of Closedown, Charlotte Sometimes, Burn, and A Night Like This.
Shaking things up, nice to have an encore of Plainsong. A Forest moves into the main setlist, and Inbetween Days is almost forgotten as it is saved for the final encore!

I also have a World War-free version. I didn’t know a version including it exists. Time to find and buy!!!!!
