On hold for 70 minutes now trying to file a complaint against a dr. who told me not to drink Gatorade to rehydrate after food poisoning b/c it's too sugary and "you're already sweet enough." Seems ludicrous. Punching him in the face would have been so much easier/
youtube's algorithm to present tunes I "might like" into my feed can get bent! Endless listings of rubbish metal bands & dreadful dark wave bands are, apparently, served to me based on what I have listened to already. FFS!
Our child's school starts at 8:30 a.m. Their school bus pick up time this year is 6:20 a.m. They could walk to school in slightly less time.
Looks like our 11-year-old will be learning to take the subway alone to travel to & from school!
Is that safe?
Good question. Children over 8 are allowed to travel unaccompanied within the MTA. The safety really depends on many factors (the individual child, which part of the subway system, the time of day, etc.). I know kids younger than ours do take the subway independently.
We aren't rushing our kid, only if they're comfortable. It's a relatively short trip, but requires a transfer. I believe it is safe IF a child of age is alert (NOT scrolling, NOT standing near the edge of the platform), street smart, and knows how to navigate the system or find help, in a pinch. Since it would be rush hour, more people = safer. We're fortunate our kid has very good judgement MOST of the time and is mature.
It's funny b/c I met a tourist from London today and we chatted for a good while. We got on the subject of kids (hers is 31 & working on Wall Street, so she is visiting him), heinous acts of violence in the US, etc. She told me kids in the UK cannot be home unattended at home until age 13. That seems ridiculous! I wonder if it's true?
We'd never knowingly put our child in a situation we felt was questionable. We're going to take several weeks to work up to them taking the train independently, starting with them riding the same train as us but in a different car, and working up. Ultimately, it could save them about 3 hours of time per day on the school bus.
As a post script, I believe we're seeing the results of projecting societal anxieties on kids in that the less we empower our kids to be independent and make decisions, thus, mistakes, the more they internalize the message they aren't capable and should be fearful. So many parents continue to hover over their kids well into adulthood. How are they ever supposed to develop?!
Kids have so much less freedom than they did when we grew up (look at how WE turned out), it's really sad.
Whomever discovered you could use hella strong magnets to treat depression and PTSD in the brain has my undying gratitude. With only 4/30th's of the treatment completed, the noise telling me I am constantly in danger or that life's not worth living has been silenced. I can't even imagine how good I might feel by the end. It is not, however, painless, as they tell you it will be. It feels like an icepick or woodpecker on my skull. It's worth it, though.
I wish everybody who could benefit from treatment this could get it.

I'm tempted & curious to hear more about this.
(I guess the magnets I have on the fridge won't be strong enough...
That said, the fridge seems to be in good moods, so... )

All spiders should be made o confront Charlie. Imagine a pissed off Sam v Shelob, bt Sam is 872 feet tall and has 27 feet to stand on a spider. Last evening she screamed about a spider in her room, I go to investigate and discover it's been flattened already!!
