WMS was released in the period of my life when (I for some strange reasons) desided that the Cure is rubbish and stop listening to them for 3 years or so... When I got my mind back to normal I realised that there's one album released... It was at the time I took a trip to Crimea and listen to WMS for whole two weeks only taking break to put Paris or KMKMKM on. It went so well with living in a tent, climbing up mountains and swiming in the sea. And I loved it and love it still It's so bright, varied and full of life. I even composed some kind of concept linking the clown on the cover with each song on the record. Listening to it now I can say that there're 3 songs that's better be out of it: This is a lie, Numb and Rownd&Rownd&Rownd. At the same time B-sides are all worth being on the album exerpt Ocean and Home, maybe. I also think the album should have been released a year earlier. It could do better.
I'm trapped in my face
and I'm changing too much.
I can't climb out the way I fell in.
I agree with Round and Round but This is a Lie is a brilliant song. The lyrics are brilliant and deep. "How can a person be with one person for their entire life." It takes a look at that perspective. And the fact it is written almost like a symphony is brilliant. The drums build toward the end. It's a master piece.
As far as Numb I understand Numb completely. You just want to numb yourself from the world because there are things in it that are too painful to bare. Isn't that sort of Robert's theme?
WMS Is a brilliant album. I will maintain that until I take my last breath.

I really like Wild Mood Swings actually, I dunno what it is about it but it just has a nice feel in my opinion. I think it could have maybe done with slightly fewer string parts on some of the songs, not to mention all the brass that flies around at various points of the album. Overall though, it's definitely not the worst Cure album, even if it's not my very very favourite.

So what would you say is the worst then? I'm frankly struggling to put my finger on a worse one
& you're bang on with the brass comment. Makes my teeth itch

Why does there have to be a worst? And is there? It's really a matter of taste. So someone likes WMS the least someone else likes The Cure the least. For all we know someone may like Pornography or Disintegration the least (in which case we will stone them to death but none-the-less) no but seriously remember Robert does not believe in lists and stats and all that stuff. Why should we?

I agree, absolutely Personally I can find a bunch of good songs in every album... I stopped making ranks and stuff months ago, every time I failed miserably
There isn't a single cure album that I wouldn't buy, because for me in every song there's a different side of their nature
dave79, I think I agree with most of what you've written here. I've been saying similar for awhile.
(I too, will always hate R&R&R but would add Strange Attraction and Return to that list).
My final WMS playlist is one I enjoy a lot.
Want Club America This is a Lie 13th Adonais Mint Car (Acoustic version) It Used to Be Me Jupiter Crash A Pink Dream Gone! Waiting Numb Trap Ocean Treasure Bare
(I also like the Gone mixes but wouldn't add them to the track list). If I had to get rid of two tracks (to go down to 14) I'm actually not sure I could. I guess Gone and Mint Car. (If I had to).
Some of these songs.. it's not that they're so incredibly brilliant or anything (though some are) but some just *feel* like Wild Mood Swings and the record just wouldn't be the record without them.
Like comics? Try ours! Tarantino meets Lovecraft...

"The Cure" is my least favourite, although I've actually been recently warming to it so who knows?!
And yeah, I honestly can't fathom why the hell it's there!! Haha
Ah, the ole Wild Mood Swing debate! Sorry I just seem to miss so many threads in this place as I can't see anything i've not looked at in one place.
I love some tracks and b-sides, but there are also some real howlers like Club America, Round&Round&Round,
But some are great, Want is one of my fav tracks ever, Jupiter Crash & Treasure are beautiful, This is a lie & Ocean are fantastic.
So yeah, I will listen to it, but I do skip a fair few tracks. Only other Cure album I do that with really is KMKMKM which I have also always felt had a few fillers on it.

The more I listen to This Is A Lie the more annoying it feels. All these strings arrangements and melody... so pathetic that my teeth hurt:) And Numb is just... I don't know... boring and banal.
