Had a great time in Riga (a very clean city by the way – very nice)
Atmosphere at the show was great and the new songs sounded awesome. Hopefully we get a bit more of new stuff during the next weeks.
Perry:
I also was surprised when he came out on stage. But to be honest he seemed pretty lost throughout the show and I asked myself .. is it really necessary to place a second keyboard and a third guitar .. ?
I'm curious about your impressions when you go to the shows.
Interesting note:
I had a conversation on Twitter & asked the same .. and Roger liked it .. mmhh
Maybe with a third guitar again, they’ll play Open properly. Doubt it.
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!
I'm liking the new songs immensely. Maybe it's the excitement of actually getting to hear them at long last but I do think they are very good. Alone is pretty Want/ Underneath The Stars-ish. Perfect opener really. Endsong seems to have a lot going on. Lots of layers of stuff with understated guitar twiddling. Much like Faith in a way. But it's nowhere near as sparse & more of a sonic wall of doom. I'd dearly like to hear the studio takes as I'm not sure the YT videos are the best way to really judge them properly. I hope there are some more up-tempo tunes to be unleashed though. Along the lines of It's Over or SDS even.
just as with the 2016 new songs, especially it can never be the same, i wish we would have the chance to get a proper recording or release, even if just an ep. so many sounds and details get lost when only heard live, plus i would like to get into these songs a bit, repeat listens more without live atmosphere. it’s a real shame… suits the lost world though.
would also like to know why perry was there, was great to see him though! most of you know i am not a fan of the other keyboard player so would appreciate if perry plays a more active role in the future. but that is just my personal opinion 😬
yet, just like with simon’s leave or not leave, i guess some things we will never get to know or understand..
stevegodwina Good point … After the show i had exactly the same thoughts. How great would it be to hear the new songs in the original from the album. But both songs were absolutely great performed live including the screen.
Just a word to Perry: I was also happy to see him again. But on some songs I felt like he wasn't playing at all. He stood there with his guitar but didn't move. The same on the keyboard. Somehow strange. I liked Reeves best. He was in a really great mood and had a lot of fun. Robert and Simon as well. By the way: Boris will always be my favorite drummer. But Jason really did a fantastic job again. Amazing…

Even in a live setting (which I still believe is the best way to listen to music) I think they'd sound way more detailed than the mush that makes its way to youtube

But the most important thing:
THEY ARE BACK ON STAGE - FINALLY ! ! !
I would also like to understand what the story is with Perry: I'm really glad to see him with The Cure again and I'd be really glad if he was back in the band 'for good'. But from the few clips I've seen, yes, he seemed to barely play at all (especially when on the guitar) and looked kind of out of it, not interacting with the others and a bit lost.
Someone said he's just there as back-up for Reeves and/or Roger if one of them was to catch Covid. But then I wonder why would he need to be on stage: Eden Gallup typically acts as back-up for his dad, but it's not like he's on stage 'pretending to play' at all shows... So I'm kind of puzzled by this...
I think there is actually great potential with 3 guitars/2 keyboards:
for example, I'd love to hear Cut played live again and it would be amazing with 3 guitars (like on 'Wish' and 'Show') plus keyboards: it could be a sort of mix between the album version (3 guitars) and the earlier version played at the T&C ('Away': with 2 guitars and keyboards).
Got back home from Helsinki today and have just finished reading this thread now. It's great to see you all and have these tour chats again
Thank you, steve, for Riga introduction. I missed these posts
I will share my concert experience and photos a little later <3
