Leaving November 18th for a week… I actually tried to figure out if I could leave my family for 24 hours to see TC in Switzerland or Germany but it would be too complicated.
I’ll gather some info from little towns in the middle of Porto and Lisbon. There are lots of charming places.

Wow, that bodes well! If you have time please share why.🙂
Hard to say in just a few words. It's a combination of things.
First of all, it's a very bright city, with a particular light (some say Lisboa comes from Luz Boa, 'good light', although I don't think it's accurate).
Then it's very scenic: beautiful architecture, somewhat "decadent", but charming, beautiful sights onto the River, which opens up to the ocean...
Then, the food, the people, the history...
It's also lively while being relaxed. Not (yet?) chaotic and overwhelming as big cities like Paris, London or Rome.
It's become more touristic and mainstream in the last 10 years or so, but it's still quite cheap (affordable) compared to most places in Europe. So many unpretentious "tascas" (local restaurants) with fantastic food and wine...
If you have a chance, go see Sintra, which is a short train trip away from Lisbon: its out from a fairy tale!

This year was finally travelling frienly again. Mauritius in january, Dresden and Berlin in march and april (trip for concerts), then 10 days august Italy roundtrip: Venice, Verona, Lago di Garda and trips and hikes around. And last but not least Amsterdam (with trip to Haag) and Zurich last week (concerts too). Bring on 2023!

Part way into our first full day here, we love it! Sintra is definitely on our agenda. Today we walked along the water and saw the Monument to the Discoveries and the Tower of Belem. Tomorrow we head to Porto for a few days, then back to Lisbon.
Mr. and I used to travel a lot until we started scrimping $ in 2017 for a new apartment. Then, the pandemic came along. I actually got a little emotional people watching today in a large square because it feels like we’ve been isolated for so long. It made me so happy to see people from all over together.
Sintra is wonderful. Sadly, it has been flooded with tourism oriented commerce, restaurants and rivers of people on it’s narrow streets. But I’m pretty sure November is a good time of the year to visit it.
