If you’re ever in the Twin Cities, take a trip to Minnehaha Falls. My last day here and this is where I chose to go. Word has it former local Prince liked it, too.
@notkristie - I’m pretty certain I’ve been there...very lovely photo! Seeing as Minnesota borders Manitoba, I’ve actually been there many times, and have enjoyed myself. Have you ever gone river tubing ?
I hope that overall, you had a great time with your family, even though it was tempered with lots of sadness. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I guess I didn’t realize how close Manitoba is - duh!
I’ve never been river tubing but I’d love to! Have you?
Almost went kayaking with my brother-in-law but then yesterday’s events. I’d like to do that, too.
The visit was lovely and I hate to leave my family, but I also miss my boys.
@notkristie I haven’t been tubing in years, but it’s a blast ! The best place I’ve ever been is in Rushing River, Ontario (very close to Manitoba, and to Minnesota too). It’s in such a beautiful setting, the Canadian Shield, and it’s so remote that it’s possible to have the entire place to yourself !
Closer to Minneapolis though is a place called Apple River, Wisconsin. I’ve been twice (on our way to Wisconsin Dells) once as a kid in the early 90’s and once in my early 20’s, and it’s super fun, but it does attract a lot of people so it can get a bit hectic. If your son can swim, I would recommend taking him along for a day of fun in the sun. Lots of fun things to do in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I think those two places are often overlooked..
I’ve been kayaking a few times, and I enjoyed it too. I once kayaked in the Hudson’s Bay in northern Manitoba with dozens of beluga whales around me! It’s hard work though - you need lots of upper arm strength, which is something I do not possess (I have some pretty skinny noodle arms) . 😉

Probably one of the most photographed places in all of Canada, Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. The crowds were mental that day though, it was full of cruise ship passengers on a day trip. The third photo is of the Swissair flight 111 memorial. On another note, the lobster situation is just delightful! I ate that whole guy all by myself!
contemplating going out the mountains (Rockies) for some hiking and hot spring action later this summer once I’m fully vaccinated. Oh wow that sounds so wonderful.

I love this idea! I was born in the Colorado Rockies, so this sounds like heaven. Do it!

Never been to Colorado, but I’ve heard great things about it! I tend to go to either Banff or Jasper Alberta. They’re both very touristy, Banff especially, but both places are just so gorgeous. I especially love sitting in the hot springs after a long day of hiking/running around. Mmmm
A few years ago I was in Florida and took an “eco tour”, and ended up seeing these guys:
(you can sorta see the mom on the left, she was HUGE)
I was so incredibly lucky that the baby kept following me around (those are my legs that you see), so I had a great time seeing her up close. Very cool experience. In case you’re wondering, before you go on the tour you have to sign waivers and watch a video about the procedures yOu MUST follow should you encounter any wildlife. And yes, thankfully you are not permitted to touch the manatees.

That’s amazing! I always feel so sad when I hear how their numbers are dwindling and they are wounded and killed by motorboats. Must have been wonderful.
