I think one of the saddest things about this (outside of food supply chains drying up) is that the truck drivers stuck there & on the French side, are going to find it really difficult to get back to their families for the festive season. Or whatever semblance of a festive season that's still permitted.
That new mutation will be everywhere sooner or later...
Here the people complain about a new lockdown which is going to start on the 28th of December. Firstly they only laughed at restriction narrowing down to 5 the number of people allowed to spend Xmas in one household. Now they are angry they won't be allowed to go skiing or go shopping from the 28th. That anger seems to me quite irrational.
It sort of feels (this year) that unless people are angry about something, they're not entirely happy. I get that the anger stems from frustration at the never ending & forever evolving restrictions, but getting angry's just going to fuel more anger & lead to more yahoos who think this is all a hoax & that it's okay to go about their business as if there's nothing to be worried about. I do like the skiing comment. If I recall rightly, didn't the outbreak in Europe stem from people returning from skiing holidays? I know the first UK case was.

According to my friend BV (runs IORR site) that's how the pandemic got started in Norway. They were able to pinpoint the initial outbreak to a specific resort in Austria where many Norwegians had gone to for a ski holiday.
Had a long talk with 1 of my doctors last week regarding the vaccines, specifically the Moderna one. The discussion was about how it all relates to my health issues initially. I had some concerns with the speed of how the vaccine came into being. Evidently, these are the result of seismic advances in the science of gene splicing, amongst other things. The advances of the last 10 years in that science have been amazing. What used to take months can now be done in days. The old method of growing the anti virus in eggs is a thing of the past. Now they work directly with the proteins in the genes, removing the problematic parts. With that, the drug companies should be able to adapt to the mutations fairly quickly. The way things stand now, I should be able to get the shot sometime in February. Fingers crossed.

I fully agree on frustration and anger leading to denying/ignoring the danger of the pandemic. Imagine that some of my friends, who of course would never admit they ignore the gravity of the situation, in fact behave like there is nothing in the world more important that winter holidays spent away from home.
Yes, ski resorts in Italy and Austria were a big source of spreading the virus for all the Europe. Officially the first case in Poland was a man returning from Germany but not from the mountain area. But later on there were many Covid patients/infected people returning from skiing in Alpes.
So... let's wait after those returning from ski resorts. Our own ski slopes are going to be closed but it's possible to go to Switzerland or Slovakia and fully enjoy the winter as I've just read
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.

Fingers crossed, Chuck.

I had to go to grocery store & it was jammed. I hear the shopping malls are like that too. Lot of cars out on the road. I have to leave house tomorrow to get a few days worth of food at my favorite BBQ spot. It's a bit of a drive. I will go early. Then its time to seal the fortress of solitude for a few days. Razor blades & rope all hidden away. I think Seattle is going to be ugly at the start of the year like California. Hospital bed shortages, huge numbers of new cases, etc. Yay.
I'm afraid what happens in a week or so now that people have returned from their families after christmas gatherings and the incubation period for new infections will be over soon. And new years eve celebrations will worsen the potential outbreak. Will try to stay home and avoid gatherings.
One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain So hit me with music, hit me with music
Just been out to pick up some palinka & saw a stall selling masks. There was a crowd of people pawing them all & then one woman asked if she could try one on. The seller said, "Go ahead." I walked away immediately. WTF?
