Heard from a colleague/friend today that we're eligible for vaccination now because of our profession. I thought it must be too good to be true, but it was true!
On Monday I will get my first shot in the series. I am so happy. Of course, this won't change much in terms of my behavior, for now. But it will make me slightly less nervous about unwittingly passing something on to a client.
I broke up with my gm today. I had been at the Y for about 11 years but today when I walked in, there were two cops in the lobby, one of whom didn't have a mask on for at least 10 minutes. When I brought it up with staff, one jr one said, "that usually happens" and a senior one did not have a sufficient response. This makes me really sad because my kid and i met some of our best friends there, and exercise is as important as breathing to me.
Oh, well, I will just start doing Richard Simmons!!!!!

My dad got his first vaccine dose on Saturday. His second dose is scheduled for Feb 02. He said his arm was sore where he got the shot and he was really tired that day, but otherwise no complications at this point. Still no word yet on when my mom can get her vaccine, though.
I got my first jab! I actually got a little verklempt with my nurse. Now I have to wait onsite for 15 minutes to make sure I don’t have side effects. Feel like celebrating!!!!!!
Trying to spread some good with this post. I know this is not the focus of this forum, but I want to share this wherever I think it may help.
After I got my vaccine yesterday I contacted a couple of other people I know are now eligible to receive it. I was shocked to learn they were either very afraid to get it or did not plan on getting it at all because of misinformation they had encountered. One of them referenced "videos", so I'm assuming this is from something like FB. These aren't people I consider stupid. I have known them quite well for years and they are friends.
If you receive the vaccine, please, please help reassure others that you are well and safe after getting it. I'm struggling with the best, most effective way to counter this propaganda and misinformation on the vaccine, but I think first person accounts will be helpful. I think it's important to listen to people's fears rather than just discount them and say, "That's stupid!" But we need to arm people with facts.
I'm not sure if there is such widespread mistrust of the vaccine in other countries, but in the U.S. little has been done in terms of government agencies reassuring the public that the vaccine is safe or how necessary critical it is for a large portion of the population to receive it if we want to regain some semblance of normalcy. There seems to be no coordinated public campaign.
I am honestly shocked that it seems people have totally lost the ability to discern facts from social media b.s. It frightens me perhaps more than the virus itself. There is no vaccination against that.
What @notkristie said ^^^ Don't read into the rubbish conspiracies being peddled on social media by people who haven't got a scooby what they're talking about. If you are uncertain, speak to professionals & do listen to people who have taken the shot. Not "randomname3954295734572" who has umpteen million followers & a flag in their internet profile.
