Today I was on high alert. Yesterday I helped Ćkos (next door) to move a big shelf and all the crap on it off his balcony. Turned out there was a family of mice living underneath it and among the crap. Much of which they'd chewed through. Hopefully we caught them all and relocated them, but I am on constant lookout for any that may pay us a visit. Although I'm sure Iggy would deal with them.

Mrs Sandgrounder & I have been reenacting the famous Laurel & Hardy piano sketch....without the piano. Carried a king sized mattress up 2 flights of steps & then folded & squeezed the old one into the world's smallest van
It was our annual block party today. This is a NYC tradition. The fire department comes, closes off your street and turns on the fire hydrant so the adults can day drink while children get wet and cause mayhem. There were many dogs to play with.
We love our neighbors and had a great time. I got shot point blank in the crotch with a water gun by a 6-year-old with freezing water. I was happy the boots I retired (and wore to my last TC show in 2023) were snatched up by our awesome, mowhawked teenage neighbor, even though they are two sizes too big.
Here is a typical NYC block party conversation:
Neighbor #1: "My new novel just came out and was reviewed in The Economist. It's called Hum."
Neighbor #2: "Oh! I'm reading that right now. I had no idea it was by you!"
This afternoon I arrived on the subway platform to see someone face planted w/ their head 3 inches from the edge. Someone working at the station had called an ambulance but nobody had checked for breathing or responsiveness. Fortunately, they were breathing, and when I checked for responsiveness, they didnāt answer, but their breathing changed. I shielded their head and back when the train pulled in b/c I didnāt want them to suddenly move and hit their head on the train. But people were like, āShould we move them?ā No.
The EMTs got there, rolled them onto their side, and recognized them. They basically pulled the person onto their feet and started berating them (āweāre not doing this again!ā). The station is one stop from a methadone clinic and I take it this person was maybe ODāing.
Itās funny how once I realized that I felt annoyed, just like the EMTās. Hmmm, wonder why that is. Why does the compassion tend to immediately vanish?

Your mother called. She wants me to call round later to see if your deceased father is sitting on the end of the bed. Also can I dispose of the stuffed toys on the wardrobe that turn into "gypsies"
Ultimately good but on my rush hour commute this morning I lost it on this high schooler who was blasting Shirtty rap and vaping in a packed car next to me. It was stressful, but ultimately, I feel I did the right thing and didnāt resort to profanity or insults.
There was a little old Chinese man with a cane wearing a mask who smiled at me from across the aisle.
What positive thing came out of this? Iām going to join a straphangers association.
One of our kid's clinicians is worried they are in a "prodromal psychotic state." While I have a lot of experience with mental health issues of my own, friends, family, etc., I have no experience with psychosis and had to look up what that really means (a break from reality). We had a pediatrician's visit to rule out any medical causes, of which there were none.
Our kid is stable now and I am focused on keeping things as normal as possible for them at home. We cannot leave them alone. Waiting to hear next steps from clinician. The possibility of a hospitalization was presented by one clinician, but not another. I don't think we are there yet, thankfully, as that would be unimaginably difficult as a parent.Ā
