We’ll, I’ve been up almost an hour and have just finished a full decontamination of a bathroom… now on porch w coffee.
I was lovingly greeted by a bouncy, happy child upon waking, who then proclaimed, “Oh, by the way, I really had to go and the toilet overflowed. But don’t worry, it’s not, like, coming out from under the door or anything.” Except, it basically was almost coming out from under the door.
So much water.

I was late for an appointment because I looked at the time wrong, thus leaving someone po’d and waiting for me. I also had my phone on do not disturb,so they’d been trying to contact me and I hadn’t answered.
Child puked on school bus, so I spent some quality time with a bucket and brush cleaning puke out of sneakers.
The rain finally stopped after four days and I knew we’d have some water damage (our building needs some pointing work done to the masonry). But I wasn’t quite prepared for how bad it would be. Took down the blinds (which released water all over the floor and my face) and saw the Shirt show. Cut away the worst of the hanging, wet drywall. Will do some containment work today to keep plaster dust from getting all over as things dry out.

Not the worst day, but an “ugh” day.
Oh my word! Are you getting someone to see to that or doing it yourselves?. Looks like the window frames could do with a bit of TLC too. That also from the water?

Sigh.... yes, the building is getting bids to do the masonry. The window itself needs to be replaced or have lots of repair. The closing mechanism on one side rusted out and broke. The damage to it is, indeed, related to the water.
We had damage from H20 to the entire wall and the window sill, etc. fixed in the spring once the area had stayed dry for about 8 months (the people above us did some work to their balcony that they *thought* might fix the problem - and seemed to for a while - but didn't actually consult anyone about where the water was coming from). Since it's a condo, we're not liable for the damage, it is the condo's responsibility to address the issue and fix the damage.
But in the meantime, I'm hanging some plastic sheeting! I don't anticipate we can have the masonry work finished and the window repaired until spring. Things move sloooooooowly.

That window would do better with replacing. Be careful with plastic sheeting too. If it's to keep debris off other stuff, that's good. But don't trap the damp in or it'll just get worse. Good that the condo is responsible for the work. That looks like a fairly big job.

Yeah, as I was scraping more soaked drywall and peeling paint away today I did re-think the plastic because I found some spots of mildew or mold a bit down under things. Will see if I can determine what exactly it is and then revise the plan. TBH, though, I think I will suggest to Mr. K we get someone in here to look at the mess. It's supposed to be a snowy winter, which I love, but...
Wow, major flooding! Didn’t make it in for my MRI because there was no way to get into Manhattan by train.
but I was heartily rewarded for making it to my blood donation appointment with this awesome promotional tee-shirt!
I don’t watch the Saw movies because of the torture but this is so weird I love it! I wish I could send it to RSX, as I know he used to enjoy a good splatterfest!!
This covers two days of amazing Halloween fun in the city. steve, please don't be angry at all the photos (not that you've ever said you were). There was just too much eye candy not to share.
Friday we took our young spook for their first Halloween Extravaganza at the cathedral of St. John the Divine. They really need to get a bigger movie screen and a better print of the film (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) as you really couldn't make out the amazing film sets of any of the text. But for me, it's always been a matter of "wait through the film for the best part: the procession of the ghouls!" Spawn bitched a lot before we left because it takes a looong time on the subway to get there, over an hour. But at the end, they said, "We have to go again next year!"
Last night Mr. K and I went out for omakase to celebrate our anniversary. It was the big Halloween party night here since the holiday falls on a Tuesday. We walked to and from the restaurant about 45 minutes each way and it was awesome people and decoration watching. I saw my favorite decorated house ever, which had hundreds of creepy dolls in front. I used to hang creepy dolls like that in the woods at my college. These folks are my people. AND they had a QR code up saying if you liked their decorations you should donate to our local no-kill shelter! Hereos!!!!
We also met a very sweet ALL BLACK CAT. I was po'd someone lets it outside, but we had a nice visit. It was very soft and friendly.
My ex's mother went into the hospital Wednesday night and it doesn't look good. He is not dealing with it very well. Honestly, I'm not either – I really like her, she's been "my other mom" for almost 20 years now since my mom passed. This is going to be a really tough week...

*sigh* C'est la vie.
Ugh, I'm so sorry, neomoxie. My thoughts are with you and your ex.

The airport tour was really good. I like airplanes anyway. Have done since I was a kid & my dad used to take my brother & me to Heathrow & Gatwick to watch them taking of & landing. Not to mention al the air shows. But today was fascinating. How they can turn a 777 round in 40 minutes from getting folks off to getting folks on is amazing considering the size of the thing. They also have a problem with birds of prey that nest in the woods around the airfield. The reason being their's loads of gophers living in the grounds of the airport in the fields around the runways. So the hawks & kites & kestrels & falcons come to hunt them so the staff have to send out a car at certain times with a loud alarm to scare them away. It was really forking windy up there (the airport is on top of a hill) & we watched some planes coming in, struggling with the cross winds to straighten up before they landed. That was quite cool. The only downside was that I have caught a cold from standing out in the wind. But the tour was cool & the guide was hilarious. Although he knew his stuff. (except the 777 isn't the biggest airliner. The A380 is) *nerd mode off*
