Today we head to Bavaria where the Bavar people rule the South Eastern corner of Germany.
More specifically, München or “Munich” & herein lies a story. The earliest known name for the city was Munichen which means “by the monks”. But arguments broke out between several factions of the monks over whether it be called München or the true name was Munich. The more hardcore Bavar factions settled on the former while the moderates stubbornly clung onto Munich which is the name you all see today on travel guides & football fixture listings across the world.
Munich & history have long gone hand in had, but there perhaps has never been a more historic event than England’s 5-1 crushing of the three-time world champions at the Olympic Stadium in 2001.
Going in at the break 2-1 down thanks to goals from Owen & a thirty yard daisy cutter from Gerrard, Owen struck again three minutes after the restart & he completed a memorable hat trick on 66 minutes and Emile Heskey picked up a millimetre-perfect through ball from Scholes 15 minutes before the final whistle to make it 5 for the Lions.
Munich’s most famous resident his undoubtably Willy Wonka (in German: Villy Vonka) who set up his chocolate factory in the city as it was the only city in Europe with its own chocolate river & the engineering talent to make the legendary Wonkavator. Legend has it that the ghost of Augustus Gloop still roams the streets around the former chocolate factory in search of Wonka bars.
But we’re here to talk about the show right? Not for some dreary history lesson.
Heading to the Olympiahalle this evening will be Millhaus , snoopy , wilgy , paulwUK , fiveswinglive , ruegi , Gita , fuchsiagroan & jofigurehead after having zuzelt a Weißwurst or two alongside several Hofbräus so we wish them well & that they have a great show.
On the flag front we’re slightly screwed as half of it’s black! So I’ve opted for the colours of the Bavar people for this one.
