Robert has said in previous interviews it'll be dark. I think he even went as far as to point out how Disintegration has Lovesong and Lullaby, and this album doesn't have anything like those. so definitely like Bloodflowers ..even Maybe Someday has a more bittersweet sound to it, at least to me.
Most of their songs are dark despite what Robert says. Even Friday I'm in love is dark. I mean if the only day really worth living basically is Friday that's dark. Haha
But it is so true.
The only day that matters for most people in this place called earth is FriDay,isn't?
He is smART,always was, always will be.
I vote for him!
And don't forget the socks song
Almost everyone wants to dance for the music but if actually someone understands the lyrics ...
But ouh well, yes,i'm sorry Mr.Smith ,you aren't Goth at all, nope.
Based of on the live versions my ranking of the new songs would be at the moment:
Alone
I can never say goodbye
Endsong
And Nothing is Forever
I like all of them, but I feel like Endsong (for me personally) has not yet earned its tremendous runtime. I hope it will change with the studio recording, that will be probably more nuanced and will reveal other facettes.
Furhter on I don´t think that any of the songs is really dark (like really dark) musically. They are sad and melancholic, but it reminds me a bit more of the Disintegration era than Pornography (and Pornography was the most referenced record by Robert in interviews regarding the new album). I love Disintegration, but I consider only "Prayers for Rain" a really dark song on the album, while the other songs are mostly also sad and melancholic.
Hmm it depends on your definition of dark. Dark can be sad and forlorn. It can be treacherous, mysterious, murderous or destructive.

"Melancholia or melancholy (from Greek: µέλαινα χολή melaina chole,[1] meaning black bile)[2] is a concept found throughout ancient, medieval and premodern medicine in Europe that describes a condition characterized by markedly depressed mood, bodily complaints, and sometimes hallucinations and delusions."
The new album is as dark as it can be,
it couldn't have been darker.
Pornography is just a shipwreck from which nobody survived.

Ouch wrong,actually someone did...survived...
I agree on this point. I actually never really expected (despite what Robert was saying in interviews) that there will be ever another Cure album as dark as Pornography.
Excited! I’m positive that we’ll see some gorgeous images and recordings tonight! Looks like our members are spread around the venue, so we’ll get to see different vantage points!
