I know we're down to the last race, but figured it was still worth starting our own thread. I know steve and chuckrh are both fans... Hope others will join the conversation, too, if it's your thing.

So, I am not a sports fan and we are not a sports family in the least! But earlier this year I binged season 1 of Drive to Survive on Netflix and was completely captivated by it. Soon after starting the first season of DTS, I looked up the race schedule and realized there was a race that upcoming weekend. I watched it, and was totally sucked in. The next race weekend my youngest wandered in while I was starting to watch, sat down and got sucked in, too. A few weeks later on the next race weekend, my wife walks in while we are watching the race, scoffs at it, then sits down and bought into the whole circus as well! I then had to go back and rewatch season one of DTS with them both and then we watched seasons 2 and 3 together. I never in a million years would’ve guessed that I would be into F1. And I would definitely have lost money if I’d bet on my wife ever being into it! So I’m new to the sport, but loving every weekend of it!

I really wish Hamilton and Verstappen weren’t going into this next race level and Hamilton had even just a one point lead. I don’t trust Verstappen and can see him taking big risks resulting in them both DNF and him getting the title because of the tiebreaker.
I hear you. Everything about this season smells of the Schumacher/ Villeneuve affair in 97. I will most likely be glued to the last race rooting for Lewis. & Christian Horner is a whiney little Wendy house

My wife and I have been digging into the history of F1, watching docs on Senna and others, and learning about past seasons of note and the nuances various circuits. Such a fascinating sport!
I totally get why longtime fans are rooting for Verstappen... they are tired of Hamilton's dominance, but as a new fan I'm rooting for Hamilton to win his eighth championship because it would be so historic and cool to see! Given how far ahead the RB and Merc cars are over every other team this year, I don't know how that translates with the new regulations next year, but I am hoping the 2022 field is more competitive across the board.
I'm a big fan! My favourite current driver is Valtteri Bottas so I'm looking forward to what he can do in the Alfa Romeo next season, shame it never fully worked out in the Merc but he has been very cooperative and the perfect wingman to Hamilton over the years.
I'm rooting for Verstappen to win the WDC. If they both DNF, statistically it does look like it's likely to be Verstappen's fault due to his aggresive style and I do feel they'll find a way to DSQ him and hand Hamilton the title if that was to occur.
Whatever happens I hope they both make it over the line consecutively.
I'm pretty new to the sport. I was into NASCAR but they have messed that up with weird rules. I've watched some documentaries on F1 & what got me was a long form interview Hamilton did with David Letterman on his Netflix show. I've watched most of the races this season & record them due to the weird (for me) & changing start times. Generally I'll watch qualifying, too. I'm pulling for Hamilton & think Verstappen is a total ass clown. When he ran over Hamilton's head & just walked away without checking on him was a classless move. 10 years ago that would've probably killed Hamilton. Thank God for the titanium collar. There are going to be 2 races in the states next year but I don't think I could afford to go & health wise it would be really tough to impossible. I also have been a little into Indy car this year & it looks like that sport may be making a comeback. Watched the whole Indy 500 whilst I was in the hospital this year & got hooked. I am thinking about going to the Portland Grand Prix next summer. It's a street course & could be big fun. We'll see how the health & finances are.

I'm going to look up that Hamilton/Letterman interview. Thanks for the heads up on it!
We record them as well, along with qualifying. I can't tell you how angry my wife was that we didn't get qualifying during the races in the Americas because of the TV package we have!
The crash at Monza was scary! The safety technology employed on these cars and circuits is, frankly, astounding!
I wouldn't mind seeing a race in person someday, but would probably prefer to see one of the European tracks. On the other hand, just seems like a sh!tshow of a weekend with the crowds and chaos. Not sure I want to wade into that. We'll see...
Looking forward to today's race hugely. I watched qualifying live yesterday morning. Good track, nice mix of turns with 3 good straights for speed. Hamilton & Verstappen in the front row for all the marbles. You really can't ask for more than that. GO HAMILTON~!
