Holy Krispy Kreme Batman I just saw that. You know us Italians, always hugging and kissing each other. But seriously, I hope this is not long. Feel bad for our Pizza Girl and other Italian contingent.
With the disclosure of three Ohioans testing positive for COVID-19 today, Ohio just declared a state of emergency. Necessary in order to secure funding, but frustrating that the terminology plays into the media's hype machine.
Absolutely not trying to minimize how scary this is for at-risk/high risk groups (my parents are in their late 70s/early 80s, and continuing to send positive thoughts to chuckrh ), but also need to remember to keep perspective and -- seriously! -- practice good hygiene.
My company just announced a mandatory business continuity event. 100% of technology employees are to work from home tomorrow. 50% of retail employees are to work from home for the next ten days while feathering in the remaining 50% over the coming weeks.
Strange times.
All these companies asking employees to stay at home are probably in part hedging their bets by reducing costs as much as possible while the world economy is taking a giant dump. Mr. K says that no, productivity goes way down while people are working from home, but I'm not so sure. I know he tends to actually put in more hours since he isn't commuting to and from. It just seems so bizarre a measure to take, to me. Such an overreaction.
My friend still works at Boeing. She, along with all the other office workers got sent home last Thursday indefinitely to work remotely. We don't think Boeing really wanted to but the other biggies had already done it. & it turns out there was someone in 1 of the buildings working who had the virus. They are a bit touchy about the bad publicity right now. I used to get more done working remotely but it was a pain in the @$$. Biggest factor was enhanced ability to dodge some useless meetings, like the daily morning group hug & management patting themselves on the back session.
The first leg of the Pearl Jam tour has been shut down, to be rescheduled. Was going to start next week. Also, it look like Coachella is going to be postponed until October.
now be nice. i saw them 2 summers ago & was pleasantly surprised with how good the show was. + they raised over a million dollars for charities benefiting the homeless with the 2 shows. i haven't heard the new record but early reports are good. + Eddie V is my neighbor!

I'd be really surprised if most of my summer stuff isn't cancelled, I'm fairly sure we'll catch up to Italy in 2-3 weeks..

Pearl Jam are good eggs - just not my cup of tea
Since the 2 shows I have tickets for next week are out of the question, I'm really hoping this calms down by September for Roger Waters & October for Nick Cave. I have tickets for a few shows before then that I won't be too crushed if they don't happen. More my friend's kind of thing. I've been dragging my feet on a few things & am glad about that now. Since I'm on a fixed income, I have to be careful with the concert budget. I wasn't going but it sure looks like the upcoming Stones tour is going to at least be postponed. First 2 dates are San Diego & Vancouver which are both in problem zones. Somehow putting 50000 fifty somethings in a stadium doesn't seem like a brilliant idea now. It's crazy how fast this thing is spreading. Am hoping I can get tested soon.
I'm hoping it will put Robert off from doing any shows this year apart from that one Poland festival date, which I guess will be cancelled, so they can concentrate on writing and recording a new album.

The longer this goes on and the more rumors circulate here in NYC, the more I feel for those in Italy and China and any other places the government has enacted measures to restrict movement.
I'm not afraid of catching the virus. What I am afraid of is losing my basic right to control my body and where I go. The mayor has said there will not be such measures taken here, but it isn't entirely up to him. I can't think of much worse than being told where I can and cannot go. Not doing it.
Mr. K tried to talk me down from my fears that this a prime way to control the masses via fear and restriction, but it feels like a dystopian movie. The energy here is so heavy. Nobody is smiling and the subways feel especially bleak. God forbid you should have to cough or sneeze on the train. Everyone is dour and looks terrified. Seeing someone smiling out there feels like a gift.
picturesofyou , since I don't know of anyone else on this forum undergoing such strict measures, please know my thoughts are with you. I hope your spirit is intact.

I would prefer a more risk-adverse stay the fork indoors policy.
