I'm shocked at reading that "doing the unstuck" is the weak song on wish. For me, it's one of the best songs on the album and would have made a great single.
It's Wendy time for me that is the only flaw on the magnificent Wish album.
Wendy Time rules Trust is the weak link, too straight down the middle
If the Hyde Park show is getting a cinema release then that doesn't mean it'll get a home release too..
hmmmm... I hate to say this, but I'm not sure that they have the capability to write an album's worth of exemplary material, be it musically and/or lyrically. To me, any song on Disintegration (except Love Song) is top shelf material, the same goes for every song on Wish, except for Doing The Unstuck, but that has some amazing guitar work on it via Porl so it almost gets there, but if I review the last two records, then it's not a case of "every song's a winner" like on previous records. They feel rushed lyrically, sonically, they miss the mark, and they feel unfinished.
I certainly don't feel that same "oh my Bob!, this is amazing!" when I put on "The Cure" or "4:13 Dream". Sure, there are songs on both records that make my jaw drop (ha, i accidentally wrote "draw" there earlier, instead of "jaw" as in "dropping one's drawers (pants) lol), such as "Anniversary", or "It's Over", but overall, those records are "make a playlist of the best songs" albums - which is a shame, tarnishes the legacy of the band, and makes me wonder what the deuce is going on.
This follows on in the new songs. Listen to "It Can Never Be The Same", and then immediately listen to "Step Into The Light". Surely you can't tell me that both of those songs are of equal calibre. Maybe to some people they are, I know people who have told me that they think all of the songs on 4:13 Dream are excellent, and it's ONLY the production that suffers, rendering the album less than a 10/10, so I'd need to respectfully disagree with them on that, and with anyone who says that these two new songs are as good as each other, therefore I'm tipping another record that's made up of 1/2 excellent songs, and the other half ideas that need to be fleshed out, and / or reworked completely, all topped off with lyrics and melodies that are running at 70% greatness.
I hope to Bob, I'm wrong, there is nothing more I want than an 11/10 record, and nothing less I don't want (?) than a poor record, so I hope, and I wait.
We can´t do anymore than waiting.
Looks like next year we´ll have something aside just concerts, and maybe one or two good surprises.
There Was Nothing in the World that I Ever Wanted More than to Feel You Deep in My Heart...

Wow, "trust" really? Another of my favourites from Wish. The song is wonderful.
And as for "Wendy time", even Robert regrets putting it on the album, saying he should have replaced it with "this twilight garden". I concur

hhaha no you're both wrong, because I forgot to mention High. I forgot it because in my mind, and on my phone, High is OUT! I remember when it first came out... Wish was my first album released as a fan, aside from Mixed Up, which isn't an "album" (you know what I mean), and High was the next single released off the back of Never Enough and the remix of Close To Me, two utterly fantastic songs, then I hear High and I'm all "WWWWHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA???" I just couldn't get into it. The lyrics, the bass melodies, the everything.. it just doesn't work for me. At all, and it never has. I always skip that song. God it's awful hahahah..
To me Trust is beautiful. Perry said that it was written off the back of being taught keyboards by Robert's sister (? I think?), and Wendy Time, well... I love me some wah wah.. That song is a departure from the "normal" style, or expectation. I remember hearing it on Play Out and being blown away by the original version and how it morphed into what was on Wish.
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!

See, I'm exactly the opposite
High was the soundtrack of my spring that year - came out in March and the Higher mix (along with Curve's Doppelgänger, both of which I still love) soundtracked all my train journeys between gigs for the Cure's warm up tour in April. It's forever tied to travelling, sunny days, meeting people and amazing gigs.
We may have slightly digressed from the new album..

ha! this is exactly what makes us beautiful! I'm glad you got so much out of that song. I'm sure I'm in the minority when it comes to High.
I do prefer that mix of High, and the one on the clear 12" over the album version.
There's a new album?

I thought High was a solid piece of curepop as the opening single to Wish. In the UK it got to number 6. Usually the first single before a new cure album would chart highest and subsequent singles would be lower after the album is out. In this case, second single Friday also reached number 6 due to its extreme catch ability and pop brilliance.
So if they had released Friday as the first single I'm sure they would have got a number 1 single. And due to the exposure and a huge new audience a number 1 single gets, the second single would have gone very high in the charts too.
Personally I'd have released the singles off wish in this order for maximum chart success...
Friday I'm in love (Number 1) Doing the unstuck (Maybe number 1 or top 3) High (Top 5) A letter to Elise (Top 10)

New album in March 2019 Well, that's a pretty well-reported timeline, but guaranteed it will slip due to plans for the 2019 tour, or the tour itself, depending on when that it. .
[
Yes it's going to be difficult to finish an album in February when they are due on tour March 14th. Also have past history of this during the 4got album tour of 2008.
They blew off the 4Tour (US leg) in 2007 basically to make 4:13. They needed that time to do it & let's not forget it was supposed to be a double album (until UMG stuck their oar in). A 2 month break in 2008 plus another 3 months after the tour ended was plenty of time to finish the album. But I think, after the tour, Robert's hearing was prolly a bit shot (i expect from Porl's freakishly loud guitaring) & that might have had some bearing on why the production wasn't as good as it could have been. This time round, Robert has said the tracks are done & just need lyrics & this period before setting off SA is set aside for "finishing" it. If anything, that's the right way round to do it & then use the 2019 dates to promote it. I do hope he has someone helping him with the production though. You've all been talking about Wish & that is prolly the best produced The Cure album ever. So let's hope Bob's got Dave Allen on speed dial

yeah whilst i was happy to see them in 2007 (or was it 2008?) it was annoying that they weren't flogging a new album, especially considering how long it is between tours for them here, and that they did the same thing in 2016, aside from the two new songs they'd been playing.
Yeah, yeah I know, it sounds like i'm whinging and didn't appreciate the tours, not the case... but you know...

I love ‘Wendy Time,’ really like ‘Trust,’ like ‘High’ and have never liked ‘Doing the Unstuck.’
Off topic (& you're so very wrong about DTU)
I'm half expecting a good part of the new album to to be recycled material (as has happened before). That's not really a bad thing. It'll still be unheard/ unreleased previously & That's quite important. Especially with Roger back in the fold & Reeves in the mix. Really buzzing to hear what he can bring to a studio party.

Nothing wrong with recycled material. It should be the best 10 or so songs they've written in the last 14 years, even ones not used during the cure/4:13 sessions including unreleased songs like boy I never knew/please come home/it can never be the same.
It needs to be totally brilliant, zero filler and up there with the band's best work, no pressure!
As for reeves being in the mix, you know Robert likes to do all the guitars in the recording studio! But you never know, reeves is an excellent guitarist and might get on the record.
