Kiss me and Bloodflowers sound great but don't you think the vocals are louder as well as extra overall compression on 4:13 and the self titled?
Bloodflowers is over compressed too. I think that's why it took me a few years to really have it grow on me. Self titled & 4:13 are completely brick-walled though which is a real shame because it reduces the amount of playing time they really deserve due to them being very harsh on the ear drums. But that's more down to the mastering than the mixing

Do you think this could be fixed in the future Steve? I'm not an expert but I always felt that the last two albums were difficult to listen to especially on headphones. Making them even harder to love... a shame really.

If the original mixes still exist (which I expect they do) they can be remastered to allow more dynamic range for sure. & that's the key really. If you listen to original pressings of all the albums there is an appreciable difference in that you can tell the difference between quiet & loud parts. The overall sound is a lot more detailed & YOU have control of the volume knob. With 4:13 & self titled it's all just loud so I get what you're saying about the headphones thing. Your head just sort of hurts after a while. Have a read of this thread thecurecommunity.freeforums.net/thread/5535/loudness-war & you can hear how recordings can be mangled by mastering engineers.

Well, I just hope for a good mixing like before. Plenty of examples there are.
I find 4:13 specially f**ked up with an awful mix or effects on voice. This plus a not clear mix on the instruments results in a bad listening experience.
There Was Nothing in the World that I Ever Wanted More than to Feel You Deep in My Heart...

Don't confuse mixing & mastering. They are 2 completely different processes. You can mix something beautifully, but if the mastering engineer does a rubbish job then it'll sound rubbish.

Ok, I´m not - as you can see - an expert on that matter.
So, am i referring to mastering instead of mixing?
The real thing is the sound of the songs isn´t good and clean to me. Bad sound in voice mostly and instruments.

Thank u Steve.
I have on my mind UTS, a marvelous song, but 9 out of 10 times I listen to it, I go for live versions, because the studio one has all the flaws on the mixing /mastering i was talking about.
Anyone feels the same?

Totally get you. The mastering has basically made the whole album really really loud. Take the quietest song on the album & compare it to Give Me It on the original release of The Top. GMI is actually quieter. 4:13 is so loud that you can't really distinguish the mixing underneath it all.

Well, then I only hope for the new album avoid this.
Please Robert, bring Dave Allen back!

Unfortunately it will still be the same because this is the standard to stay competitive with a brickwalled mastering process. The ipod earbuds ruined music forever.
