Hallo, I think the main problem with the last two records was both the mix and the mastering. I try to explain my point. The mix and the production fix the volumes of every part or instrument and fix also the stereo balance of every instrument and the basses and high frequences. The mastering works on one track with all instruments inside. What a mastering can do is to clean the frequences and pump the basses for instance. But if the drums are bad recorded or the vocals has too effects and are set too high the mastering can't do anything. I think that especially dream 13 was a very bad work in terms of mixing and mastering. It sounds too compressed. Only the voice seems in front of you the rest is totally flat

Hello crmadness & welcome to the forum. The mastering engineer won't pump any bass. That would need to be altered in the mix. Essentially their task is to make sure things are corrected & enhanced over the whole stereo track to sound as good as possible in all playback formats. They also make sure that, after you play track 1 with the volume at 5, track 2 doesn't suddenly blow all your windows out. They create a balance over the whole project. In addition, they (should) ensure that you can clearly hear the difference between quiet & loud passages on any given track. This last point is, unfortunately, something that is not done very well very often. But you're right. If the mix is badly done to begin with, then no amount of mastering skill is going to fix that. As they say in Glasgow, "Ye cannae polish a jobbie."

That ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ yep trying to master mastering right now. Mixing is easier lemme tells ya.
Can you imagine if Robert released EVERY concert they have ever done digitally? Holy mother!!
lot of bands are having some success with that concept. for instance, metallica releases every show. i think now they are even making it part of the ticket on the current tour. if you didn't go to the show, you can buy separately. the who have been doing it for a few years, too. its a good idea.
You know all joking aside, he is asked many times why didn't you release this why didn't you do this you promised etc... and from my recollection his answer is always the same "Because I was living life." We forget he has this massive family and assuming what he says is correct he does stuff with them. I mean if they are Catholic imagine the christenings and confirmations alone. Sheesh.
If we wish hard enough will a new album happen? Well it would be nice.
You can try wishing but I doubt it will work! As the year is pretty much full up of disintegration festivals, I very much doubt there will be any new album released this year.
Up to 11 years now of no releases, very depressing for a once very creative band.
