I have never really been able to kill basil. I guess that's Mediterranean basil? Great for making pesto or garnishing a tomato & mozzarella saled I don't have too much use for the Med variety really & usually have some Thai basil on the go. It has a really good taste. Sort of an aniseed kick. Thing is, the store I order seeds from didn't have any this year so I need to get leaves in from an Asian food store in Budapest. I couldn't be without it as I do a lot of Thai dishes at home. That rosemary has had it though
Wow, those are picture perfect, steve. Do you use them in your Thai dishes (I only really know of them used in Mexican or Tex Mex food), or is that another variety of pepper? Save

These are just for Tex Mex. I am also partial to poppers when I can be bothered to stuff the things I use bird's eye chillies for thai stuff & a variety of others for Indian & other Asian dishes. Can't easily buy them here so that's why I grow them.

I had the worst case of gastroenteritis from a batch of unseeded BBQ's jalapeno poppers once about a decade ago. The person who made them was trying to be testosterony, I guess. Didn't tell us about leaving ALL the seeds and ribs in, though. And I'm not a spice wuss.
I bet you can get some certain types of chilies in your neck of the woods, though, that you probably couldn't get in the UK or US... Whatever they use to make paprika with? Save

Paprika is a pepper & there are a lot of varieties, some of which are incredibly spicy. I have grown a type called (colloquially) mascka pöcs (pron: matchka putch (short U like in "put"). Literally translates as "cat dick" . They are tiny but holy cr@p they are spicy! The powdered stuff you can buy in most herb/ spice aisles in stores is just ground dried red paprika usually a spicy type & a sweet type. If I need anything special, this place is only 10 minutes way in Tihany.

Such cool stuff to know!
Mr. K will be in Budapest in August so I'll definitely have him pick up some quality paprika. Save
I'm feeling pretty happy with the "green wall of power."
The aloe threatens to knock over its pot and has sent up lots of new growth. I think I can also divide the vertical, "seaweed-like" plant for another pot.
I took these pictures of a neighbor's peppers this morning on the way to work to see if steve has any inkling what they are.
The only clue I really have is that once I saw the neighbor outside and spoke with him about them a bit. Difficult communication, though. He was wearing a sarong, so I'm guessing they are some type of SE Asian variety.
