I've read quite a few posts on this site sort of deriding Jason Cooper. Well, having seen 2 & listened to several more shows from 2016 I have to say that I vehemently disagree with the negative comments. On the tapes I've listened to, Jason is a rock which is what I want in a drummer. He & Simon are absolutely locked in. I'd say that they are as good a rhythm section as any in rock right now. Right up there with Flea/Chad Smith & Clayton/Mullen. While Jason adds a few flourishes, he never overplays. All the while keeping the beat/tempo absolutely steady. Boris was a great drummer but I would say Jason is at least his equal. All of this is within the context of what serves their music best. The last thing the Cure need is Neil Peart! I've said this before but I think that as a band, the Cure are absolutely on top of their game right now. Considering how long the band has been around it is basically unheard of. Just one example: the current version of "Let's Go To Bed". On the tapes, the song sounds like it is brand new not over 30 years old. There are some subtle changes in the arrangement & tempo. Made me want to get up & dance if I could! I can't wait for this lineup to unleash a whole new record!
Jason has earned his keep big time in The Cure. He is the drummer that has been with The Cure the longest and I think he is fab! He was an animal at these shows. His drumming on Burn and Pornography alone is aces!! Total animal on those! I agree completely. I know a few more people who will agree as well!! Plus he is playing injured and I hope the poor honey gets some well deserved relief!!
if The Cure had another Drummer like say Terry Bozzio it would be too technical and take the spotlight away from Robert and Simon's stage presence and it would take 100 years to set up Bozzio's drumset haha Jason is a basic / very good solid drummer and has been with the band longest [1995-current] and contributed to the NEWERish Cure music; Andy and Boris were also both very good; and/but 'LOL' was the first and laid down the foundation of a lot of those classic early Cure drum beats on songs that they still play Live

My two problems with Jason (which I'm sure have been pointed out by many other people) are his tendency to overplay the hi-hat, and also the pre-recorded samples used on songs like A Strange Day and Push (which could be Robert's doing). Jason hatred is beyond old by this point though. It hasn't made him go away, and if anything, it's made Robert double down on Jason, and keep him in the band longer than he otherwise would have been it, just as a middle finger to the haters. To say something nice, Jason does have a good sense of time, and I like his brush-work on the Bloodflowers album. He also performed flawlessly on Trilogy.

"According to Sharma, The Cure's drummer, Jason Cooper, also joined the team to form a supergroup of sorts.
'And then, I was also fortunate enough to work with, we brought the drummer from The Cure in, Jason Cooper, that had just been nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame," Sharma said. "In fact, they're going to be inducted, so he plays drums on the score, so we had sort of like built this rock band of star players plus me! It was a complete thrill."
