I'm quite surprised they're making movies. The series itself gets a lot of flak these days for being a shadow of what it was. Do they really think the movies will fare much better?

I don't.
I am one of those that have stuck with the series since its debut. I am a comic reader who was reading the comics long before the series started. I thought the first season was not very good, but they started to find their footing the next year and had a few really solid seasons. The last few years, though, I find that if my wife (who didn't read TWD comics) wasn't so into the show and insisting we watch it each week, I wouldn't really miss it.

I've never read the comics myself. I just can't be done with them (like the Star Wars things) so, in that respect, I guess I'm in the dark as to how closely the show marries to the comics themselves. Theoretically that should be an advantage as I haven't been primed before hand as it were. I still watch it no matter, but it's nowhere near what it was. Sometimes it's like a soap opera with a few zombies in it.
At least we know that the finale is ‘in the works’.
I am so looking forward to an epic GOT- style battle !
On a side note - in my humble opinion GOT was probably the best television series that had the absolute worst final season. I’m still bitter about it.
Could have been worse - at least they managed to fit book 5 into 2 episodes cos literally nothing happens in the book at all. Somehow, GRRM will still find an excuse to not put pen to paper and finish the next book, despite being locked away from the delights of Hollywood...

They needed to add a few more episodes though to balance out a number of the storylines. I have zero expectations of when the next book will be released. Perhaps the book series will never be completed?
