oh boy two pages of unread dialogue to wade through..Sorry..not right now : ) Brandy tonight, I'm on holiday. Used to be that I'd go to a gig and if I could buy a ticket off a guy outside the venue I'd do that...It's promoting self employed independant business...others saw it as a bad thing..I never got that...I'd always support the independant outdoor seller...Outlaw seller if you will...very often I'd go to a gig and say to a tout 'look, when the bands already on will you give me a ticket for a tenner..we'll wait five minutes after the first rush?' And I really didn't care if i didn't get the ticket and that's the key...To be not attached...but anyway..they'd say 'sure bro'...I never got why old fashioned ticket touts were so hated. They were just guys not wanting to get money by working in supermakets or insurance..Just guys...we could have all supported them. We didn't...People hated them, for God knows what reason I never I figured...and now...ha..get what you asked for people..just get what you asked for. Ticket touts are corporate bastards selling thousands of tickets to a sister company who sells it at a legal inflation and that we hated touts so god damn much makes this so much easier for them. Support your local outlaw folk, your homenit outlaw - corporate culture will catch up on us.
They really should change their name to ticketbastard.
What about Ticketmobster?
That's a bit on point considering organized crime has traditionally been involved with the music biz in a big way. I could tell you a few stories. I would not be shocked at all if they were heavily involved with the big concert promoters who own Ticketmaster & their ilk. Be careful, you could end up sleeping with the fishes!
PS: The CEO of Ticketmaster/LiveNation name ends in a vowel. No offence gongoro73. Just saying.....

You are gonna need a lot more to offend me, Chuck.
Awww just came back to see if any comments on my diatribe...One of the things I like about this site is you'll ignore me when I'm off on one : ) Keep it up (or down..whatever : ) ) Still not read the thread, I'm sorry...The Cure always make cheap seats available have you noticed? You might not but they do..they always have £25 (well, not seats but standing...nah in fact sometimes even seats...Albert Hall was standing at the back for £25, The 2016 tour was sitting at the back for £25...see, that's an affordable night out. It still takes a lot of saving up, the two of you, the booze, the BnB, the train fair..sure it's still a £200 night out but it's not a £400 night out...or at Ticketmaster prices an £800 night out. What can be done? Well, I'm a drinker and a smoker...game's over for me now...Those were the days etc..but for you lot that quit smoking - you've still got years of gigs ahead of you...how do we embrace a corporate gig culture? I'll read the thread at some point..no doubt this has already been discussed : ) Ah..thanks for letting me ramble...this is one of my favourite grumles is the new ticket tout thang X

Cure were the only ones to make their front bit at Hyde Park first come, first served - literally every other act has charged more for those tickets. Bob does his best, bless him.
Ticketmaster have found a new bottom of the barrel.
They now have dynamic pricing on standing tickets in some venues. Their excellent logic is that, people want these tickets so we'll increase the price and that will stop touting. They increase the face value price by 50% so, in this case, presale got one face value and general sale then had the price increase. TM fees are based on a % so they also increase despite them not actually providing additional service in return for that fee.

You're behind on this, has been that way in the states for awhile. One recent example was Beach House. By the time the general sale happened the cost had magically risen to over $100 a ticket for standing room on the floor. the reserved balcony seats were close to $300. Sadly, I had to pass.
We've had dynamic pricing in theatres for a while, they normally start high and then reduce it but I think this is the first time TM have tried it in the UK. But there are always cheap options on the theatre (day tickets etc.) that they're not brave enough to remove.
This is just a shameless racket based solely on why should Viagogo and others get that money, we want it.
Ticketbastard are just as up to their necks in the secondary market as viagogo. The only way to get out of that mess is to simply not use them & let the artists know that they are ripping fans off. Sadly, they're often the only game in town so, to them, it's a captive audience.
Yesterday I bought tickets to see Melvins in September. This is through Live Nation, not Ticketba$tard. GA for $29.50 each. Total price for two tickets after fees: $82.50. That's a 40% increase over the original ticket price when fees are included. I know this isn't news to anyone here but I'm not buying a lot of tickets these days. Gee, I can't wait until TC comes to NA and I buy tickets for each night they're near. Won't that be fun for the wallet?!
It seems live music is only for the rich these days. This is ludicrous. Music has traditionally been a spontaneous art form that is so easy to share with others informally (just gathering a singing or jamming together).
I wish there was a way to purchase extra tickets to go into a "scholarship bank" for people who can't afford them. I remember one time my husband and I and a friend went to see Melvins and the friend had an extra ticket, which he gave for free to some young guy at the door. It made that guy's night. He was so grateful.
I've no idea how one would make a donated ticket bank work, but I feel like it's an idea whose day has come...
Didn't Live Nation merge with Ticket Bastard a few years back? 40% is daylight robbery. I can't even begin to fathom what that's paying for. "Fees"? I read this and I'm really curious what "client" means. If I read the UK site client seems to mean promoters & venues. Even so, 40% is absurd.
