You got to meet him, that is one of my lifetime regrets was that I never got to meet him. I was forth row center for one of the Reality shows, but never got to meet him.
I am learning to love some of Bowie's 80's music a lot of people do hate on his 80's period of coarse it didn't help that Bowie himself said he wasn't fond of some of his 80's contributions.
I think there are gems and some great songs mixed in with what you described as "Cheesy 80s aspects" but at this point why not embrace it because he isn't putting out any new music. I have a Club Bowie cd that has some pretty cool remixes of some of the 80's stuff.
I have been listening to "Welcome To The Blackout" I really like it.

The Box set that will follow "Loving The Alien" I am sure will have tons of Reeves on it once they focus on his career in the 90's. I wonder how far the next one will go and if it will include the Tin Machine releases.

let us hope that tin machine is included. they were a noisey unit for sure, haha. that's when i first got into reeves. they played seattle once. his subsequent work with bowie was stellar, too. so happy he is in the cure now. he certainly didn't disappoint at the 2016 cure shows i saw!

I loved Reeves contributions to Bowie's 90's work I am a huge fan of Mike Garson Bowie's piano player, being a piano player myself Garson's playing sends chills down my spine in a good way. The Motel on Outside the piano work is stellar, also on I'm Deranged. Garson by far has to be one of the best piano players I have seen his touch and ability to put complex lines into material is fascinating.
David Bowie always had an eye for talented musicians and always hired the best people and also was responsible for helping the careers of Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, and of coarse Stevie Ray Vaughn (however Vaughn had a record deal prior to playing on the Let's Dance album) just the same he knew how to pick guitar players from Mick Ronson to just about every guitarist that ever played with Bowie were first rate.
But I am a huge Mike Garson fan I have bought all his solo albums the guy is simply brilliant.

did you see the "outside" tour? that's way up on the all time great shows for me. & we missed marilyn manson (not a huge loss. don't hate him but think he's overrated) because of traffic. went with the ex gf from hell. nin did an amazing set then they gradually got replaced by bowie's band. trent sang "scary monsters" & bowie sang "reptile" & "hurt". unreal. bowie's set was amazing. the gf biyached about it the whole time because there weren't many hits aside from "man who sold the world" & "under pressure". killer band with reeves & carlos alomar on guitar, gail anne dorsey on bass, mike garson on keyboards. can't remember the drummer's name but i think it was the same guy that played on the reality tour. stellar.

Don't learn to love Bowie's 80s stuff - the are some absolute gems in there but a lot of makes me want to pull my teeth out. Tin Machine onwards is so much better

The Reeves re-recording is definitely in the box, it's gonna be interesting but I don't think it can save the album unless they have different vocal takes too :/

Sadly I missed the Outside tour do to my own GF from Hell experiences HAHA

Another great regret of mine. Went to Earthling another Bowie album I absolutely love and the tour was awesome.
I would probably rate Bowie's 90's albums as:
1) Outside
2) Earthling
3) Hours
4) Black Tie White Noise
not sure where I would place Tin Machine in that even thought the first one was a 1989 release.
I do like Tin Machine II.

We still had to queue over night for that last Hammersmith Odeon show - no presale/good seatrs for that one! :-*

I saw him in 1996 when he delivered an awesome live version of Velvet Underground's "White Light White Heat", very intense and a great Trent Reznor NIN version of "The Man of who sold the world".

I will always have stuck in my mind the version of "Hallo Space Boy", with breathtaking drums.

thank you salleygarden . sometimes it is hard to keep track of band members! & you are correct, both are awesome drummers. i really luv gail ann dorsey, too. i actually had a solo record of hers before or right around when she started playing with bowie. a very talented lady, imho. i count myself lucky to have seen bowie in venues of all sizes, from a (large) club to theaters to arenas to stadiums. & meeting him was 1 of the highlights of 25+ years of working in the music biz. that was a big moment!

My all time favourite Bowie rhythm section is George Murray on bass and Dennis Davis on drums. An awesome combination that don't get anywhere near the love they deserve.
