PS My top 5 favorite guitar players are (in no particular order): Reeves Gabrels Jeff Beck John Frusciante Nels Cline Mike Campbell/Robert Fripp (tie)
That;s a whole different thread but off the top of my head:
John McGeoch Johnny Marr Prince Joey Santiago Reeves Gabrels would be there somewhere but Bowie had such a high standard - Ronson, Slick, Alomar, Fripp..
Carl Broemels of My Morning Jacket has been moving up fast for me. He & Jim James have been smoking hot since they've started playing again. Another fave is Steven Drozd of Flaming Lips. That guy is a Prince type, plays everything.
Went to Tony Visconti's Bowie band at the Barbican last night - had it's moments but probably the weakest Bowie tribute I've seen, nowhere near the standards of Garson's band and border-line pub rock at times. Still, the moments (and those songs!) made it just about worth the journey.

Last night I caught Chris Brokaw (Codeine) performing locally and I really liked him. His music was an interesting juxtaposition to the two other bands that played. I found him really soothing, and his lyrics can be really funny.
I saw this album on the merch table and it really piqued my interest.
Here is an interview that appeared in the German online magazine Gaesteliste. Chris speaks a little about the process and challenges of making instrumental versions of some of David Bowie's songs. I'll admit to being a little incredulous at the interviewers statement, "I wouldn't have taken you for a huge Bowie...fan."
I had a great interaction today re: a Bowie tee shirt. While waiting in line for my food order on the way to work I saw a little boy, 9 or 10, waiting with his grandmother for food on the way to school. He was wearing the DIY black gloves and a studded arm band. Then I saw he had on a Bowie tee.
I asked him about his gloves and we got to talking. He told me he made the gloves (out of socks!) and that he played electric guitar. I asked what musicians he liked and he named Queen. Bowie, Zeppelin, Paul Stanley, The White Stripes, etc. Ah, there's still a lot of good in the world.
A Hunky Dory companion, some tracks are pretty rough though and not the quality some expects from an official release. Still an essential release (for me at least).
Saw him in Prague 23.06.2004, his second to last show, where he thought having a pinched nerve through the show but having a heart attack instead. Gail Ann Dorsey and Catherine Russell did a great job saving the show.
