I feel gutted; I was just terminated from my second employer. I was let go due to a substantial decrease in donations (they’re a non profit). And since I’m the most junior member of the team, and only work for them part time, I was the one chosen to be let go. I really loved that job too; I loved being part of an organization that did actually did something positive in a community.
A lot of charities have been hit hard during the pandemic, so please don’t forget to support your favourite charities if you’re able to do so.
Yes, charities / non-profits have been hit hard, making their vital work so much more difficult to achieve. I hope people who are able make a point to share their wealth.
steve - is the word ‘gig’ only used when referring to a show or concert? A Canadian gig really just means job... you won’t hear the word used otherwise.
@notkristie: thank you for your words and support, I feel pretty crushed right now. I was really angling to leave my government job and planned/hoped to work at the non profit on a full-time basis. Back to the drawing board I suppose !
I’m currently drowning my sorrows in a loaf of banana bread I made yesterday. If only all rejections could taste this good life wouldn’t be too bad at all . ..well I’m glad to see that, despite this setback, I’ve been able to maintain my sense of humour! 😉

A gig is what I would term any sort of appointment. Could be a show, a job or any sort of assigned task really.
I’m exhausted today! It was worth it though, I watched my team score the winning goal in triple OT! But now I’m longing for the comfort of bed...nice soft sheets, big fluffy duvet...

There is nothing better (IMO) than clean sheets and a cool, dark room. Enjoy!!
Right now, pi$$ angry. On my way to work, saw two cops stationed just inside the gates of my subway station scrolling their phones. I went down to the platform to check the time of the next train, sucked up my nerve and went back up to talk to them.
As calmly as possible, I asked if they could tell me what they were supposed to be doing in the station given that many people would be fired if caught scrolling their phones at work. They said they weren’t “allowed” to do much within the actual system and that they were using department issued phones to look at info like wanted lists (which is why they were talking about auto insurance deals when I walked by them scrolling?). I said they wouldn’t have noticed a “wanted” person if they came by given the fact I walk-in without them flinching and one said, “But you don’t look suspicious.” FFS, our tax dollars at work.
I would have just suggested they go to Geico. Apparently 15 minutes can save them 15%
Ahhhhhhhhh!!!! You know that over there?! They were leaning State Farm.
I remember it from when I lived in Fort Worth & always recognised Jake Wood's voice on the original lizard as he played Max in Eastenders Plus, it also on the NBCSN football streams that I....er...utilise....when the games I want to see aren't on my cable channel in Hungary. I remember State Farm too but they had a really naff jingle "Like a good neighbor..."

Whoa, you lived in Texa$$?! I’m sorry.
I loved it there. Except for the grackles. They were so loud. Oh & the god squad overload on Sundays. Made some really good friends, got to see The Cure twice & Blondie at the state fair. Would love to go back.
Not only did we keep isolating but my marriage fell apart in the middle of Covid at the end of July last year.
11 months later I’m divorced, 51, living somewhere new and working two new jobs. I also had hernia surgery right after my ex left me while I was packing and moving. And I was unemployed when she left me. 2020 was the worst year of my life so far.
To top it all off, my mother had married her dad so my ex is now my stepsister.
