I'm still half the book. Although I've been a fan of them since I was in my twenties, I've never learned too much about them, except the most common facts of their history. So, for me is a new source of information since I didn't knew almost anything about their history. I'm enjoying it so far despite the fact that I find them a very cold people, quite different from what we are used to here in Spain. Listening to Hooky in the documentary talking about the death of Ian, and their reaction to it, it's completely alien to me. No offense, please.
Oh, I've just seen it has another one, 'Unknown Pleasures: inside Joy Division'.
No, I haven't read it. Is it a good one?
I think he has 3 - one about the Hac, one for JD and one for NO. They're definitely only one side of the story but entertaining page turners. Probably the most colourful version of the JD story. The NO one becomes increasingly anti-Barney as it goes on.. All worth a read and lots of insights.

Yep, I have the Hacienda and the NO one on my list. And now I also have the JD one. Thanks, Stu.
Funny thing is that, although I'm going to eventually read all his books, I must say Hook is not my fav kind of character. Every time I've seen him talk I've found him kinda histrionic, a theatrical guy, like playing a role. Don't know if it makes sense (specially since I'm expressing myself in my poor english) Anyway, it's just my impression.
I know what you mean but I enjoy that cartoon pantomime villain side of everything he does. And his sound makes the bands, I definitely enjoyed the Light a lot more than New Order last time I saw them.
I still haven't read Barney's book but I'll get round to it one day..

You are so spot-on! I don't think I like Hooky as a person, but I find him wildly entertaining as a character.

I have always pooh-poohed bassists. Always said, "Anyone can play a bass." In my estimation, Flea was the only person who ever made bass playing cool.
It wasn't until recently... A) I started viewing Hooky as a character being played versus looking at him as a person I disliked. B) with the release of the Gorillaz track, I realized just how important and unique his work is to a song. That song is instantly recognizable as having a Peter Hook baseline.

Great bass players are definitely a rarer breed than great guitarists. I don't know if Hooky counts as great but he is unique, distinctive and makes the songs better. Can't ask for more than that!

(Essence of Epica)
Just started reading this band autobiography by Epica. It's similar in style to Ten Imaginary Years which I really like and it is also making me wish we would see a '40+ Imaginary Years' type book though I think that is unlikely
Friday night, kids in bed and time for the 3 Cs - Chianti, The Cult and comics
Apparently, a Chew animated series never got to pilot but a live action take on it is still in development. Deserves a bigger audience, such an enjoyable read.
What about some Simon Gallup guy? Can you imagine Cure songs without his basslines?
Who?
Love Simon to bits and can't imagine Robert continuing the Cure without him. but is he a distinctive bass player?
I don’t know, probably not, but I think he is the only human beign on earth capable to come up with the basslines of SS, Faith and Prono. Distinctive enough for me.
