This is a goth genre I have never seen before and I'm really fascinated by it (not musically, just culturally). Having lived in NM for a few years, it's familiar to me in some ways. This video is definitely LA, but culturally very similar to large city NM. I have a big place in my heart for lowriders / airbrushed hoods / hydraulics.
Gothic Charm School is a fun resource / read that has been around for a long time. The Lady of the Manners is an elder goth and many of her "advice column" posts (aka Lessons) center on people who are hesitant to let their freak flag fly either because a) they are older and haven't come out of the goth closet and feel weird about it or b) they are really young and are afraid of pissing off their family.
There is a nice 2017 holiday gift guide that has links to some interesting etailers.
Sigh, some good eye candy. With his dusty look, though, Carl McCoy looks like he's been sleeping in grandma's attic for 100 years and then got run over by a truck. Too Steam Punk for my liking.
Probably the most beloved eccentric on this list, Robert started wearing makeup around the 1981 release of Faith, got big hair around the 1982 release of Pornography, and after his second stint in Siouxsie and The Banshees, fully honed his iconic look that became synonymous with goth—and still is to this day!
Hmmmm, although I know you can technically only believe. 13.59% of what RS says in interviews, I'm pretty sure he's said he wore makeup and dresses in his teenage years so people would leave him alone and be in awe of him. I don't think it was just upon the release of Faith.
I was digging through some old physical photo albums today to find pictures of my Great Dane. I found a picture of one of the first times I ever wore black lipstick, circa 1983 when I was almost 9.
I actually don't favor black lipstick now, but back then, yeah.
