Steve, I shouldn't attempt silly irony online! I love both bands and find the countless similarities between them fascinating.
I think it's hard sometimes to put a finger on what attracts fans to two seemingly quite different bands. I think sometimes a lot lies in both their abilities to swing from light to dark moods within their repertoires which will win fans of different tastes (just my theory). I'll admit I could take or leave DM at first. They did seem a bit mainstream for an alternative band. But they gradually got a lot darker & heavier which I really enjoyed as it struck a chord with me & I suppose I learnt to appreciate the earlier output a bit more. I now think New Life is an amazing tune when I never really gave it too much thought before. The Cure sort of did it in reverse.
One key difference for me is that DM's greatest hits and singles tend to be also their best songs - at least in my view. Whereas The Cure's singles and greatest hits are not necessarily always their best stuff.
In other words: if you take a DM album, the songs they pick as singles will generally be the best on the album (I think it's true of Ghosts Again and the new album too, for instance).
Instead, that's not the case, generally speaking, for The Cure. If you only know the singles from The Cure, you're missing most of their best stuff.

very good and important observation. i feel sorry for people who only know the singles...
I really enjoyed the Berlin show. If anything, I thought they were better than the last time I saw them in 2013 even though I preferred the 2013 setlist. This was my first time seeing them in Berlin and I can see why the band love playing there. I'm usually not a fan of stadium shows but the Olympic stadium is an iconic venue, and the crowd was amazing right from the start. This was probably my last time seeing them (unless they come up with a radically different set or a decent new album) but I'm glad I went.
My last run of Depeche Mode (was tempted for the 2024 leg), but my sister was really excited and so the Hungarian audience. They still did an excellent show in Budapest although their setlist is a bit too static. Nevertheless they played A Question Of Lust, Strangelove and Condemnation.
Also the organization, security etc. in the Puskás Aréna is way better than in Austria or Germany.

What a stellar fecking setlist in Cleveland Friday night! Loved that we got Policy of Truth instead of Sister of Night, Strangelove instead of Soul With Me (a song I detest from the new album), and Black Celebration instead of Wrong. And that acoustic version of Strangelove was perfection! If you’re going to reimagine a classic, that’s how you do it.
We went into the show with low expectations and they were mightily exceeded!
I surprised Mrs. Weedy with seats on the rail next to the B stage. I shot a bunch. Still working my way through, but here’s a handful…

I'm really glad you and Mrs. WeedyB had a great time!
Your pictures are great, but the last one is priceless. They don't look to be having a terrible time, either.
