Just minutes before The Cure was to take the stage at the Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City last night, the area was hit by quite a heave earthquake ( magnitude 5,9). The stadium was filled with 40.000 people and although Mexicans are not exactly virgins when it comes to earthquakes a large portion of the public started panicking.
Our chief editor Bernard Van Isacker was at the arena in Mexico City when the earthquake happened: "I thought that I was loosing my balance as I felt the ground drifting away from under my feet. Then people started screaming and I was told that an earthquake was taking place. I could see those big station spot posts shaking back and forth as if there was a huge storm taking place. Instantly all communication via mobiles was also interrupted as thousands were trying to call their family. I guess Robert Smith had not better way to celebrate his birthday today."
As it seems the band itself didn't realise what just happened as they started playing their 4 hour set without giving any mention of the earthquake.
