There is a bit about an application called 45sound which does actually sound pretty amazing & it seems Sony Music are trying it out.
There are some bands that really don't care & some (The Yeah Yeah Yeah's) that seem to get really miffed by it. But considering "we" are the audience, it's "us" who often find ourselves peering over a sea of iPhones, Galaxies, Blackberries, Sonys & Nokias etc, as gig goers attempt to capture memories to whack onto Youchoob as soon as they get home. Being fairly tall (5'11") it's not too much of a bother for me. I'm rather indifferent to the whole thing, but what do you think really?

i live the moment enjoying some pic took now and then during the act. let we do that at the poeple who do this better
Everyone at the Reflections gig had a camera phone and it did not impede my view at all and I'm very short. I am incredibly grateful for the videos because I love the music but I'm also a very visual person. I like to see what's going on during the concert too. I am so thankful for the people who have video taped concerts throughout the years. I agree they can be annoying but people jabbering away at concerts is way worse for me and it's usually (sad to say) the women who are the biggest offenders of that. Did you come to a concert to hear the band or hear yourself ya silly b****? If all stadiums and arenas were pitched we would have to worry so much too! The Beacon is pitched. It was perfect. I cannot repeat enough.
It's never even occurred to me that camera phones, etc at gigs are an annoyance. I used to take my camera to gigs all the time when I was a wee nipperette and that was 20 years ago. There have ALWAYS been cameras at gigs, so why the BBC do an article on it now, I have no idea.
Personally, if someone has filmed the gig and pops the resulting video up on YouTube, I enjoy reliving the moment.
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

I'm with you on this, it's people talking that gets my goat the most, it shows total lack of interest and respect for band and audience alike. My only camera annoyance is couples that seem to spend half a gig taking pictures of themselves!!
These are all really quite interesting. I think, as a generation, we have become almost "blind" to the phones as it has been a norm for so long now.
@zebs (see what I did there? ) I think the Beeb were following up on the twitter thing & pointing out the 45sound tech & the article is also leaning toward videos rather than still shots (& I do hate flash photography at shows).
I guess I'm a bit self centred about it. When I go to a gig, I get annoyed when I see people with cameras/phones up over their heads, getting in my way and I often wonder how does it feel as the artist, when people seem to spend more time recording the show than just getting into it. It must look quite odd to see a sea of phones pointing at you! However, on the other side, I only feel like this about gig's I attend! If I can't be there then I'm grateful for ALL photo's and footage I can get my hands on hahaha
