The version of Close To Me is it's redeeming feature.
That said, I've been surprised at how good the acoustic version of Pictures Of You is. I found it in a radio session from XFM.
There are other acoustic shows available so perhaps the songs work better with some audience feedback.
There's one from Paris '04 that I enjoyed more.
Never been a fan of the acoustic stuff. I hated unplugged with a passion & still do. It was a fad around the time for bands to release some sort of unplugged effort. I think that sort of irked me. It seemed very bandwagony & that's very un-The Cure-like
Hmm. I think it starts off wrong TBH. The slowed BDC is a pet peeve.
Then the next few tracks limp along. Meh.
I understand the 'concept' of the album, and the band did their fans a service by trying this, however...
Perhaps Bob's voice is not suited to such sparse arrangements / perhaps the choice of songs doesn't do him any favours in that regard. I can't help thinking that the decision to stick to that sequence was in error (or not having an audience deprived the songs of the x-factor).
I do like CTM, Lovesong and Lullaby and the XFM POY as well as the acoustic Just Say Yes. So the idea definitely has merit. The result though was underwhelming.
As stated above, a live setting worked very well in 2004.
There's also the Black Session which I'll explore sometime.
It would be so perfect If you would just fall out the window
I have a bias against old rockers slowing down their famous songs. I am aware the demo is the same but BDC sounds wrong now.
Kirk Brandon has done worse though.
Old?! Cripes! When those tracks were recorded wasn’t RS just about 40? What does that make him now? The Crypt Keeper? 😂 Let me start planning my funeral.
