Another year done & dusted.
The world’s still intent on picking fights with each other & talking about important stuff without actually doing important stuff while we look on & try to muddle on in our own little ways.
An alarming number of legends have shuffled of this mortal coil to go & join what I am sure is the best festival line up ever known in the afterlife somewhere &, for the first time in what feels like 50 years, LadBaby wasn’t xmas number 1 in the UK. Silver linings & all that.
The Cure pulled off a couple of sensational tours in both North & South America & it was such fun to have many of you join in the journey & learn some niche historic facts (& units of measure) as we made our way across the land, sea & sky to far flung locations and shared the live experience of our favourite beat combo. Let’s hope they have a well earned rest.
Some of us have had more than our fair share of difficult moments these past 12 months and it’s been great to see the rest of the community rally around & have each others’ backs. I can only hope those moments are far less frequent in 2024, but if you need to vent, then there’s always someone here ready to listen & share some of the pain or, indeed, joy.
Personally, for me, this year has been one with a huge change in that I moved house & I quite enjoyed sharing that destruction & renewal here. I’m sure the coming months will be filled with more adventures, sore thumbs & various other DIY inflicted injuries. So stay tuned
For tomorrow I would like to lay down a challenge. As many of you know I am a massive idiot….I mean… advocate for new music. A late friend used to constantly remind me that other music is available. So here’s my challenge. See if you can manage going the whole day on the 1st of January WITHOUT listening to U2. I am calling this “U2mageddon” & I think you know which particular song I’m talking about . It woks along the same lines as Whamageddon, but with a different band & song. NOTE!! this is not the same as ABBAgeddon.
I’m not going to ramble any more now. I guess you all have parties to get ready for & copious amounts of booze to imbibe. However you spend this evening, try to do it with a smile on your face, even if that isn’t a very goth thing to do.
& let’s hope those smiles endure throughout the whole of 2024 & beyond.
Lastly, I had a chat with our font of knowledge, the Bloke Down the Pub.
Happy & healthy new year to all of you and those dear to you.
