Just a short 98 mile (or 2.1 million standard mobile phone chargers cables) trip down & left a bit for our lads brings them to Philadelphia.
After a long session with my old friend, Bloke Down The Pub I have some interesting facts to share on this one.
In 1682, William Penn (the tall bloke from Penn & Teller) was having a sandwich for lunch. He was enjoying it so much he decided to use the name of its key filling for the city itself. The ensuing copyright case fell apart on the grounds the cheese was invented in New York & had no legitimate claim to the name Philadelphia & so the city was able to keep using it royalty-free.
Soon cheese & sandwiches became a “thing” in town. The local steak sandwiches were pretty much the same as a steak sandwich anywhere else, so Pat & Harry Olivieri added cheese to it unwittingly creating the city’s iconic signature sandwich.
This exciting development highlighted just how boring drinking pepsi had become so Arthur Philip Gildersleeve took the lead on the project & changed lives forever with the invention of the krazy straw in 1936.
If you ever need a massive bell installing, don’t ask anyone from Philadelphia. Local firm Bells Я Us were employed to install the famous Liberty Bell in 1752. But (& this has been completely removed from wikipedia) disaster struck when a young intern, his fingers still greasy from his cheese steak, dropped it leaving it cracked beyond repair. As his boss wasn’t around at the time he completed the installation & blamed the crack on the first ringing of the dinger. He even edited the wiki page to say just this & it remains unchallenged to this very day.
Arriving in the City Of Brotherly Love today will be Pipperoo , hairqween , olivier , fiveswinglive & finalsound all ready for some cheesesteaks or maybe a roast pork sandwich with a few Standards. Let’s hope they have an amazing time.
