Today The Cure round off the last of three magnificent shows at Madison Square Garden.
Weirdly, Madison Square Garden isn’t a garden at all. But it gets weirder. It’s not even actually square.
The originals, however were square. Although still not gardens.
The first one held a capacity of 10,000 people and was installed just across the street from Madison Square Park (which is more of a rectangle really. But at least it was more garden-y).
But patrons & staff (& ticket master) were put off by the ghosts who would float over (without tickets) from Madison Square which used to be a cemetery.
So that one was closed down & a new, ghost-proof version was built in its place. The increased capacity pleased ticket master no end as it meant they could fleece even more punters than before. But the legacy of the supernatural experiences of the first one still kept people away.
So it had to be moved once again. This time a full 2 miles away (that’s 938 unrolled rolls of duct tape). This was well out of the range of any wayward spirits, so it didn’t need expensive ghost-proofing which saved around $50 which was spent instead on flags. With a capacity of 23,000 it was a ticket scalper’s dream come true. But, as you all know from Tuesday’s background story, it got worn out & was replaced in the great renewal.
With the advent of ghost-proof bricks, it was possible to make it a bit closer to the park & the square itself. As an extra barrier to paranormal activity it was built in the shape of a cake, preventing apparitions from hiding round corners & the addition of a crack team of professionals in the city meant the audiences could watch their heroes in relative peace. & this is where the saying “4th time’s a charm” originates.
So, watching their heroes in relative peace today are shane , nobos , @notkristie , weedyburton79 , sang , olivier & finalsound who we hope have a magical time. Let’s also hope they enjoy their chopped cheese sandwiches & Super Spruces.
You thought he colour scheme was crazy yesterday. Well just you wait for this….
