Our band of beat boys head 230 miles (or 93,000 manatees) north west into America’s hat to Ontario. The epicentre of the most heinous crime against food ever committed eh.
Toronto is massive with the name being an old world word meaning “really forking big eh”.
But it could very well be bigger. However, with the Torontoites being among the thinnest people in Canada on average, planners & architects were able to save a lot of space to fit everyone in. Doorways, spaces between bus seats & McDonald’s tables are typically 10cm (or 7 bumblebees) narrower/ closer together than anywhere else in the world, saving the city the equivalent of a couple of dozen hockey stadiums in area.
With all this extra space, the University of Toronto was able to install a huge silo where they could keep old junk like telescopes & stuff &, in 1972, Charles Bolton was rummaging around trying to find an armchair he’d put there when he decided to have a look at the sky through an old telescope he found.
To his surprise he noticed a spaceship flying towards a dark patch in the stars. He spent 98 minutes observing its attempt to rescue the stricken USS Cygnus (that had left all its lights on) unaware of the struggle going on inside the craft.
From earth it looked a fairly regular rescue mission but, aboard the vessels, BO.B. & V.I.N.CENT. were trying to defeat the evil Dr Reinhardt & his sinister bodyguard Maximillian who had enslaved the Cygnus crew & turned them into drones with xmas baubles for faces.
Sadly BO.B didn’t make it but V.I.N.CENT. saved the goodies who eventually got sucked through the dark patch nearby which Bolton likened to a hole. That was black. & that was the first recorded discovery of a “black hole” which was named Cygnus X-1 in honour of all who perished that fateful day.
Thankfully, our Bob is still with us &, with the help of his bandmates, will hopefully be thrilling a packed house today. On their way there are Danielle, rivum , maccatori , mojo , limegreen , Lemon Lies & fiveswinglive (if his flight isn’t canceled again) who will make time for some peameal bacon sandwiches and some cold Hendersons. Hope you all have a great time eh.
