Another 410 miles (or 618,000 North American river otters) east for our travelling troupe as they come to Illinois.
Chicago is home to 4 of the 10 tallest building in the country. Although there have been claims of cheating from New York & with just cause it seems. In 1850 the city was lagging behind in the skyscraper league so the authorities embarked on an ambitious, albeit devious scheme to move back into the big time.
Under cover of darkness, the entire city had a series of hydraulic jacks secretly positioned at strategic locations & was physically raised by a height of 14 feet (or a female adult giraffe) instantly moving it to 2nd place in the tall buildings league.
Despite the prestige, this new elevation came with some downsides. For one, more wind which is how the name The Windy City was coined. & with more wind came more dust which prompted Mr Ives W. McGaffey to put his thinking cap on. After a few failed attempts, he finally came up the the Whirlwind vacuum cleaner which was a blessing for housekeepers throughout the city who were now able to hoover their filthy walls with comparable ease.
Once the place was cleaned up, infamous mob boss, Al Capone moved into town. He’d put it off for a while due to his dust allergy, but the Whirlwind was a game changer.
Soon Capone’s merry band set up shop to write novels newspaper articles all furnished with state of the art typewriters in a dust-free environment.
This new, cleaner city soon became a hotspot for legends including not one, but two twins who became household names. Yes, born into the city that gave the world twinkies, were jedi sceptic Han Solo & his identical twin & occasional fedora model, Indiana Jones.
Hoping that there won’t be any snakes tonight, maccatori & olivier &, hopefully, sang arrive to have a quick munch on a deep dish pizza & a few cold Old Styles before getting stuck in to what we hope is an amazing show.
