After a great start, our heroes head to Houston in southern Texas.
Known as the problem-solving capital of America, Houston is the place where, if you have a problem, you tell them straight away & they’ll get right on it. To boost their reputation for devising solutions, the city used their now famous catchphrase in 1995’s blockbuster Apollo 13 starring Tom Hanks, thus putting the city on the map for solving sticky situations.
Bought for $1.40 per acre (24 buses) in 1836 the city had to find a name that suited it. The administration overwhelmingly voted to name it after legendary songstress Whitney. A decision hotly contested by Beyonce who originates from the city. But the name stuck to this day.
One of the most famous landmarks of this sprawling metropolis is the beer can house on Malone Street for which John Milkovisch had to drink continuously from 1968 to 1987 to be complete.
Also famous is the J.P. Morgan Chase Tower which planners scrambled to rectify after ordering 5 sides instead of 4, turning it into a big, shiny hexagonal skyscraper instead of those boring square ones.
One thing you need to know about Houstonians (Houstonites?) is that they famously can’t (or can’t be bothered to) cook. So sang ’s in luck as she swoops into the Capital of Southern Cool in time to hit a restaurant for some vegan kolaches perhaps with vegan cheese & jalapeños along with a sneaky Rocket Fuel before the show tonight. Hope you have a top night out
Now for the colours. Looks like blue & white with a touch of gold is order of the day.
