I just realized that I haven’t yet introduced myself to the forum. Doh!
So I’ve been a fan of the Cure since I got ‘Pornography’ at Vinyl Fetish (LA record store) and thought “ooohhh that’ll freak my parents out!” Fell in love with the album and the Cure. Had been strictly an 80’s new wave kid before that – Duran, Depeche, Thompson Twins (Alannah Currie was my idol), mostly stuff featured in Smash Hits (remember that cheesy rag?) and played on KROQ (local radio station). My intro to the Cure drew me to the darker side – Siouxsie, Sisters, Bauhaus…
First Cure show was at the Hollywood Palladium in 1984. Honestly don’t remember much, just that it was around Halloween so lots of kids in line were in some kind of costume – not just goth. The last time I saw them live was 2016 at the Hollywood Bowl – no costumes All in all, I think I’ve seen them live about 8 times? Looking forward to seeing them in this May – next month! Squeeeeeee!
FYI I’m terrible at trivia and I’m not much of a collector. So I’m a total idiot about dates, past band members, B-sides and the like. I have most of my original vinyl, but not a lot of special pressings or live recordings, so I may not be able to chat knowingly about obscure Cure stuff, just the main releases.
That’s waaaaaay more than I planned to write and not a funny as I hoped it would be. C'est la vie.
Shout out to Steve for telling me about this lovely dark corner of Cureness, may he always have clean socks and his fav biscuits at the ready.
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! Still reading through all the great content on this site – amazing the amount of knowledge and info that is here.
