My english accent is unfortunatly terrible. I went to some part of GB and it was quite difficult for me to understand sometimes, especially when people talked quickly, they just chatted to each other, like at the pub, maybe with slang, that was tough!

French person (from France) speaking English = happiness followed by a swoooning.
I’m a native English speaker, and sometimes I too have difficulty understanding British people. They use a lot of slang that I’m completely unfamiliar with. I love it though.
I used to be fully bilingual, it’s awful that i’m afraid it’s no longer the case. Kinda tragic actually. All I can say is that you either use it or you’ll lose it.
My best friend who’s British (born and raised in London) is currently visiting his family in the UK (London and Cornwall). He’s been lamenting that few people seem to understand him and question him on where he’s from. Granted, he’s been in Canada for over 20 years so his accent is bound to be a bit different, but he’s being asked whether he’s from Australia! Lol!
He keeps sending me ‘it happened again’ texts. Poor boy.
I think Ben Cumberbatch does a great American accent when he's Dr. Strange. The problem i think with Americans doing English accents. As I've been around you lot multiple times now, Is a English accent, for the most part, is not super heavy aka like Dick in Mary Poppins. Like The USA you have different accents so do we. The funniest thing is when I went to England in 2012. And we were at a fish and chip shop. And steve will remember this me Steve and HairQween. We're in this fish and chip shop. And there was an English elderly couple in there. And the woman asked me if I was from Northeastern Pennsylvania and I was completely shocked. Because I didn't think for 1 second that I had an accent but apparently I do. They were lovely. So I love sccents too. Cool thread.

Yeah, absolutely. I think Bert (DVD) was a cockney accent. There are definitely regional accents there. I remember reading that when RS’ family move to a different part of the country when he was young he got beat up at school for sounding weird.
I’m always told I have “no accent” which is my understanding of the accent from the mid-Atlantic. I’ve lived so many vastly different places in the US in terms of accents and I always feel I’m speaking differently after a few years but people say I’m not.
Americans ... every English accent sounds like something from Mary Poppins, dreadful
I’m listening to Americans attempt a Bostonian accent, it’s dreadful.
One of my favourite things is getting drunk British people to do an American accent. The results are often hilarious, and leave me wondering if that’s what we actually sound like.

It is.
I always know a Boston from New York on how they say "coffee". If I hear Cawfee it's New York if I hear Caffee it's Boston. hahaha "We're going to the hobba (harbor) for some chadda (chowder) Do you want some Cafeee with ya chadder? yes I'm silly.

To my untrained ear there are only 4 American accents:-
1) Ellie May Clampett's 2) JR Ewing's 3) Janice's (Chandler's ex girlfriend in Friends) 4) The rest of the US & Canada
