I don't get why they don't just go instrumental when this kind of stuff happens. There's really no need to be singing when you've got guitar players like this in the band. I guess he just wants to sing? I guess there's also that fear of falling in front of 20000 people - Maybe ok to risk an instrumental improv in a club but not an arena. Still - I really do wish musicians would have the bravery to play their instruments without a vocal.
Thing is - the Cure have got two amazing guitar players in their band - sure not as good as Daniel Ash or Ace Frehley but better than most. Be great to have an instrumental night.
Since apparently he had - he's been having? - some trouble with coming up with lyrics and vocals for the new songs, they could perform the whole new/upcoming album in its demo instrumental version, plus 2 encores:
1. Lost wishes 2. Carnage Visors
It'd be the highlight of the whole tour :-)
I can't agree more! This would definitely be an epic show and an unforgettable experience! For the pop fans it would need a 15 minutes sing along part at the end though.
A great show in high adversity! You really can’t knock Bob at all, he gave his all last night when he was clearly struggling badly. I wouldn’t have complained at all if he’d have cut the show short, many would have. But, no, powered on through and it culminated in quite an emotional boys don’t cry where the crowd were singing for him. I’m not sure how he’s gonna get through Cardiff tonight!

I'd take Robert, Perry & Reeves over either of those guys. Reeves way over. Listen to Bowie's 90s output. Reeves guitar work is seminal. 1 of my favorite guitar players of all time. So inventive. His live work with the Cure has been a serious lift for the band as evidenced by the tapes & in person circa 2016. Of course Reeves doesn't have a guitar that shoots fireworks. Maybe we could set him up with one of those.
I've been listening to some of the pop encore (Close to Me, Friday, BDC). I can't see how on earth he is going to sing tonight.
Just listened to BDC. He's going to need a miracle.
When I looked at the Itienerary for the tour I was a bit worried this would happen. The schedule was very ambitious with no room for recovery even without the flu. I think Robert would benefit from taking a day off between shows most of the time. He's 2 years older than me & the older you are the greater the recovery time needed. Granted his voice has been great until now but he doesn't need to beat himself up. Another factor is the Cure are playing way longer shows than most bands. I'm not saying to shorten them but that needs to be taken into account too.

46 dates in 10 weeks. At least 46 hotel check-ins, sleeping in a different bed most nights, eating in hotels/restaurants. At least 46 bus trips/plane flights plus check-ins/baggage collection. Interviews at each location answering the same questions etc etc and then having to put on the best show (because it may be the last).... It would be tough if he was 23.

I was seriously stoked when Reeves joined the Cure. & @ my first show (Vegas 2016) he did not disappoint! I was in the front row of the balcony on his side of the stage. Disintegration....I got to see him play with Bowie a lot too, starting with Tin Machine. Phenomenal!
Just home from Brum, what a fun show that was… the singalong was really special. I hope Bob gets to rest his voice a bit after tonight! (Reminds me of dM 101 when Gahan has to use steroid spray to pep his vocal chords up a bit) #inbobwetrust

Just finished reading you and god, I hope Robert will be alright... I'm sending him all the good vibes that I can. He really is a hero I love him so much. I hope the public will help him and show him how much he means to us

Absolutely.
Although, I haven't seen/heard of any interviews yet, have you?

I'd prefer most of Wish to be instrumental, and the self titled LP - I do like his lyrics - was always a fan of the existentialists he aligns with /belongs to (Ya know Knut Hamsun etc) and loved his attitude after the press slagged the Seventeen Seconds LP - He comes out with The Holy Hour and The Drowning Man and then goes further with The Figurehead. Real arrogant writing and an ego in the face of schoolboy journalists hyping the electro beat happenings. He just didn't care if it was liked or not - real good artist. He just cared for getting it out there. I thought Wish was pretty bad writing and could have made a better instrumental LP but I know I'm in the minority - some great wrting on Wish of course - just some emotion in the music gets a little buried with the weaker lyrics. His best lyrics are some of my favourite poetry - he's a good writer when he's good. Sublime musician - his guitar work is incredible. I'd love an instrumental Cure tour.
