I don't get why they don't just go instrumental when this kind of stuff happens. There's really no need to be singing when you've got guitar players like this in the band. I guess he just wants to sing? I guess there's also that fear of falling in front of 20000 people - Maybe ok to risk an instrumental improv in a club but not an arena. Still - I really do wish musicians would have the bravery to play their instruments without a vocal.
Thing is - the Cure have got two amazing guitar players in their band - sure not as good as Daniel Ash or Ace Frehley but better than most. Be great to have an instrumental night.
I'd take Robert, Perry & Reeves over either of those guys. Reeves way over. Listen to Bowie's 90s output. Reeves guitar work is seminal. 1 of my favorite guitar players of all time. So inventive. His live work with the Cure has been a serious lift for the band as evidenced by the tapes & in person circa 2016. Of course Reeves doesn't have a guitar that shoots fireworks. Maybe we could set him up with one of those.
Daniel Ash has got to be the most inventive guitar player - there are more than one number ones - Robert Smith is a genius guitar player - just beautiful sounds and styles and flavours. Reeves manipulates his stuff like a giant. Both these are of high calibre - I've never actually noticed Perry - are we just being kind because he may be reading? Is it not ok to say Ace Frehley has a sound that no other guitar player has? I'm not putting Perry down by Bigging Ace up.
