There’s a saying along the lines of “All roads lead to Rome.” This is, of course, something else wikipedia is lying to you about to boost shareholder profits for highway construction & tarmac companies in Italy.
In reality, all roads lead to Madrid. Irrefutable proof of this can be found in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol where the kilometre 0 plaque is located. But no. wikipedia once again shows its bias towards Romans having already dedicated literally thousands of pages to them.
If you’re looking for that pair of studded high heels or poorly fitting pullovers or even that little black dress & rabbit mask ensemble for the office xmas party, the Madrid has you covered. So clothes-mad are the Madridians that it is home to the biggest Zara store in the world. So fill your boots….once you’ve bought them at Zara.
People born in Madrid are actually known as “gatos” which means cats. This is because they are all descended from Felis catus. Other than having slightly larger than normal ears & whiskers, this gives them some unique abilities. The ability to climb up walls, walk along very narrow things without falling off & ruining perfectly good furniture & curtains. Take a walk to the Plaza de la Villa and you will usually find locals soaking up the sunshine or playing with balls of string. Moreover, although I do not advocate doing this, if you push a Madrid resident off the top of a bookshelf or table that they’ve decided to jump on, they will, despite having lost their tails over decades of evolution, always land on their feet as documented by Robert Smith who dedicated a song to them in 1983.
It’s that sort of ancestry that gave part-time singer, Julio Iglesias, an edge when he played in goal for Real Madrid Castilla & earned him the name Julio “The Cat” Iglesias.
It’s also (& you won’t see this on wikipedia) the reason that Barcelonians hold a grudge against them as they are known to stage raids on the Siberian Hamster sanctuary whenever they’re visiting.
Strutting into town with their (figurative) tails in the air today will be gongoro73 & fiveswinglive full to the brim with Gambas al Ajillo, Churros con Chocolate & loads of Mahou. Let’s send our best to them for a top nite out
We’ll settle for the two colours today as we’ve been going a bit mad recently
