Today we visit the the home of one of the greatest names ever to hail from Spain.
Born in the City Of Counts into a family of five brothers and four sisters, he came from a humble background & spent his youth & teenage years caring for animals until one day, a chance meeting during his regular Saturday shift at the local pet shop saw a brilliantine stick insect & his chain smoking, be-wigged wife take pity on the young man & they took him under their wing.
They trained him in the art of carrying heavy suitcases, inordinate amounts of toilet rolls, waiting on tables &, more importantly, getting smacked round the head & being set on fire.
Yes. We’re talking about Barcelona’s favourite son, Manuel. A man you knew could always keep a secret.
Having put the spotlight firmly on his home town, fame & fortune followed with Barcelona investing heavily in a sea port, not one, but two football teams, a pickpocket's haven, & a church which is entering its 140th year of construction. Not to mention a sanctuary for pedigree Siberian Hamsters.
This vast expansion in the city’s infrastructure also drew celebrity residents including the world renowned psychopathic queen of accents, Villanelle from Killing Eve, who moved into Casa Ramos in season three. This was a handy for the Gothic Quarter where she’s often be seen rocking a flowery dress before changing into something more practical to murder someone in El Born’s spice shop.
With so much celebrity & contract killer activity, real estate boomed & huge Lord Of The Rings fan, Antoni Gaudí, designed several buildings that were a modern take on Hobbit houses but with an upstairs too so inhabitants could see any Orcs coming in the distance.
It’ll be gongoro73 & fiveswinglive who will convene on the Palau Sant Jordi today. Let’s hope they have a fantastic time once they’ve finished their Arròs negre and had a few Estrellas.
Just the three colours today but I’m sure we’ll manage
