After an in depth chat with the bloke down the pub what can I say about Lyon that hasn’t already been said?
You know what? It’s another asteroid!
All this time masquerading as the capital of Gaul during the Roman Empire where Asterix & Obelix went shopping (when it was still called Lugdunum) for sausages, meatballs & home made quenelles from the resistance leader , Jellibabix in Asterix and the Banquet.
People even seriously believed it was the source of the joke about Obelix being fat. Whereas, as any fule kno, he was medium in size as referenced in Asterix & The Goths.
But no. This was all a fabrication as it transpires the true Lyon is an asteroid approximately 7km in diameter that was discovered in early 1975.
Due to its relatively safe distance from Earth it was considered an ideal shooting location for Armageddon where our hero, Bruce Willis drilled holes in it to make it lighter & selflessly manually detonates the nuke he inserted all soundtracked by an Aerosmith ballad.
All this time we have been led to believe it’s the third largest city in France located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône while all along it’s actually a space rock tucked away in the asteroid belt.
This would go some way to explaining the spacey sounds of notorious keyboard botherer Jean-Michel Jarre who hails from Lyon & regularly themes his music on the barren landscapes of the icy rock with a trance/ progressive rock twist.
The venue today was designed by Tony Garnier who, taking time away from his hair care & skin care empire, presented the country with a slaughterhouse that held the world record for having the most flags on top of it. It was closed in 1975 (yeah, that date again huh? It’s all too obvious now.) &, once all the blood & guts were cleaned up, re-opened as a concert venue in the late 80’s where The Cure have played four times already.
Making an appearance for their fifth visit are faith , bloodflowers78 , fabio71 , Fabien G , lolb , fiveswinglive , sat , & cats who, after disembarking their spaceship, will head to the nearest eatery for some Andouillette & pommes frites alongside generous quantities of Ninkasi Noire. Let’s hope they all have a smashing time this evening.
We have four colours to play with today so let’s go mad
