Today The Cure reach Austria. Home of the boomerang & the most venomous snakes & spiders in the world. So, in a spirit of international greeting, g’day everyone. Get some shrimps on the barbie & crack open a stubby cobber. Good on ya sport.
Destination Vienna, the country’s capital & the City Of Music. Named after a popular shortbread biscuit traditionally piped in a sort of whirl shape with either a jam & cream filling, or even in a finger format (& I prefer this much more) dipped in chocolate. And Mr Kipling thought of everything as they also come in a plain version for the consumers to dip into whatever they wish.
Running through the heart of the city is the mighty Danube river. Known the world over thanks to one of the most famous musical compositions ever written and, due to the complete absence of alligators, is a very popular location near which to build capital cites, with no fewer than four at the last count.
Hedy Lamarr, Toto Wolff, Falco, a guy with a penchant for putting cats in boxes (or did he?), the city has spawned numerous famous names. Most controversially, Maria von Trapp who had all her scenes cruelly cut from The Sound Of Music despite being a perfectly accomplished singer.
But, apart from the biscuits, Vienna is probably most well known from the opening scene of Killing Eve where Villanelle eats an ice cream… shortly before killing someone.
This will be The Cure’s second appearance at the Marx Hall and heading there today are charlottemargita , Danielle , fiveswinglive , monghi , michelt , snoopy , drahos after a few Schnitzels a slice of Sachertorte coupled with a few Ottakringers. Let’s hope they have a wonderful time
We’ve hit another red & white configuration today with the Vienna flag, which is, of course, based on the popular biscuit filling made famous by Mr Kipling. Who bakes exceedingly good cakes.
