The name for the city of Łódź came about thanks to a broken typewriter on a wobbly table after a few bisons.
But the locals loved the wackiness of it so much it was voted best city name ever typed while drunk.
Łódź was first known about in the 14th century thanks to a chap called Władysław the Hunchback, who was an ancestor of that poorly drawn Diznee guy who sings & rings bells.
Since then it transformed from small settlement to an industrial powerhouse for textile manufacturing in the late 19th century that earned it the name “Manchester of Poland”, then economic decline in the late 20th century & back to a new high being named the Unesco City Of Film.
So important is the movie business in the city that a Walk Of Fame was installed. An idea copied by Hollywood that may have led to various copyright infringement suits. But, eventually, the California installation caved in & was forced to change the shape of their stars while Łódź agreed to change the name of theirs to Aleja Gwiazd w Łódzi (The Alley Of Stars).
There was some controversy a few years back when the bloke tasked with drawing maps of the city got bored & decided to “free-style” by drawing the outline of his girlfriend, a Miss Piotrowska, into the city map itself. Her head was the market, her hair the streets of Pomorska & Legionow, her heart in city hall & her shopping bags in Rzgowska & Pabiancka streets where she had stopped off to buy a wicked pair of shoes & a dashing new hat.
But the moderators at Google maps were furious at what they branded cartographical vandalism &, you know, they kind of had a point.
Back to modern days & it seems maccatori is flying solo today, heading, as we speak, to the venue. Stopping briefly to top up on the local zalewajka and Jedwabne.
He’s had a good time so far & we hope it continues
New colour combo for the setlist today as the city flag is a refreshingly different colour.
