This evening marks the third visit of The Cure to the former Globe Arena in Stockholm & somehow I need to get this intro done without mentioning ABBA.
Firstly, it strikes me as odd that the name was changed to Avicii, as Globe was pretty much perfect given that it literally is…you know…..a globe.
Situated across 14 islands, from space, if you were to use the Bubble telescope, Stockholm looks a bit like a pile of smashed Pringles
Historically not much to speak of bar Vikings, the establishment of a monarchy after a bloody uprising, & a plague. But, after an incredibly informative discussion with the bloke down the pub I learnt that it wasn’t until 1983’s mystery thriller, Gorky Park hit the silver screens that Stockholm really came to the fore.
Co-starring with Helsinki, the city’s Sheraton Hotel was the scene of many essential indoor sequences while the Gamla Stan was the scene of many essential outdoor sequences.
At last the city could cement its place on google maps.
As for claims to fame, Ingrid Bergman, Alfred Nobel, Alexander Skarsgård, renowned West Ham supporter Greta Thunberg, & the genius behind Britney Spear’s Baby One More Time, Max Martin all hail from the capital. But I was reliably informed that the most famous person in Stockholm is, in fact, Ethan Hawke. In addition, the city won the coveted Best Achievement in Hair at the Canadian Screen Awards.
gentleplodding & michelt will be heading to the Death Star this evening having gorged themselves on köttbullar with sides of lingonberry & mash alongside a few bottles of Arzachel & we wish them all the best for a top nite out.
Looking at flags, it seems to me that blue & yellow are quite popular in the region so, unless I have a change of heart & use those outrageous Arzachel label colours, blue & yellow it is.
