I don't know if I should do a proper review of all 3 CDs, as I am not an audiophile and don't have the ear of Rick Beato:
But I could hear the difference from the opening notes of "Open". There was a lot going on in the background that I can hear now that RS fine tuned in the revised Mix. "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea" now sounds closer to his concert version. The original Wish mix of that track sounded to me like a demo cut. At least compared to the sound he settled on for tours.
I also appreciate tracks like Wendy Time more. Hard to believe.
It's almost as if Wish Deluxe is a new album tuned to sound like his concert tour sound. Version 2.0, we can call it.
A review of sorts - The Cure Wish - Deluxe Edition - Disc 2
Track 01 Big Hand (1990 demo): This is a finished track. There is something surprising, through the track you can hear Robert Smith yelling in the background. It's a long, eerie wailing like he does on Prayers for Rain. And it answers a question: Robert is The Big Hand! The lyrics point to the voice and he's back there in the wind, calling.
Track 02 Cut (1990 demo): This is slower than the album track, but the basic melody is recognizable. This song is so uninspiring that the question arises: Who thought this demo sounded promising enough for an album track?
A Letter to Elise (1990 demo): Real nice, but the big guitar instrumental sucks. A real disappointment after all that buildup of a nice track.
Wendy Time (instrumental): I really like the demo, no frills. The album version sounds over-produced. This may be subjective, but I had the same reaction to the demos vs finished tracks for Throw Your Foot and Happy the Man.
This Twilight Garden (instrumental): Sounds finished, pretty complete.
A Foolish Arrangement (instrumental): Worth the price of the Deluxe edition! Beautiful.
T8: I'd take this over any song on the Wish album. Any of them. Sorry. Just how I feel!
